Jill, I don't know what the answer is?? But I am not funding something that helps to keep the fat cats warm at night when they couldn't even send out an officer to help and animal in distress. I understand its a predicament but by the sounds of it I am certainly not the only one with a sour taste in my mouth, maybe the RSPCA should stand up & listen to the people. I used to get annoyed also when they sent me upsetting letters with pictures of puppies and kittens in distressing states when I was already donanting, again I had to call them and ask them to stop sending them. I know of the cruelty, I don't need it landing on my doorstep. Its actually quite strange as I remember they came out to take a mouse off me that my cat had brought in as the kindest thing to do was to put it to sleep. Seems they have time for the small cases (don't get me wrong, every animal in my opinion deserves good treatment, from mice to horses) but priorities seem all wrong. I am sure they also do a lot of good work and I am sure their hands are very tightly tied but how about stop asking the general public for small donations when the general public have little or no faith or no money and cut the fat cats salaries. Don't see the fat cats (if the figures quoted are correct) offering to help those poor horses, no, because they are cosy, warm & well fed in their 5 bedroom mansions!! Just like the fat cats don't give a damn about the elderly freezing to death in their homes because they can't afford to pay rising fuel bills. Its all so very very wrong

have a very strange feeling I know where the other horses are, and if I am right then its not too far from me, theres been an awful lot of 'activity' up there lately, and I do know the blokes name now................ but will not put it on here but all I can say that if he was left alone with the girls on the yard for five minutes then he would be minus certain parts of his anatomy............... without the benefit of anaesthetics!
Its been all our YO can do to stop the girls charging up to find the other horses and bring them to the yard, one because we would get into trouble (but gladly) and two we would have to return them to the cretin who owns them!

While I am no fan of the RSPCA I can't understand this thread being directed mostly at them. They are a charity who enforce the law as best they can. Surely if there is a breach in the law, whatever law, it is down to the police to enforce it yet no one is condemning the police for not marching in and seizing the horses. I am sure that while it looks like nothing is being done, the RSPCA are working to resolve this but they need to collect evidence and make their case as water tight as possible to enable the horses to be best cared for. if this involves them being removed from this mans 'care' then I'm sure they want to have everything in place to make it a permanent thing and not make mistakes that mean he could potentially get them back.

The police I believe have to wiat until approached bythe horse welfare authorities before they can wade in and seize anything.............. while the RSPCA have the power to bring prosecutions (unlike other horse welfare charities) the evidence has to be watertight, and they have to get a warrant sworn out and signed by a magistrate, and they take some convincing........... therews reams and reams of paperwork to wade through and legal hoops to jump through before they can even think about taking those horses off the land, and until they have police back up they can;t go nowhere. Am not defending them just telling what was told to me this morning by one of the RSPCA inspectors who is one of the good guys, he will do an have look and go where angels ( and his colleagues ) only dare to tread!
