I saw MR and KM at Hadlow College on Saturday (I think it was Saturday, although may have been Friday - the days of the weekend have rolled into one!) for the first time. Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it - I don't think I could pick out one part specifically ETA: I'm not sure exactly how relevant this is, but I've never been to a lecture-demo (or indeed any horse event!) that has been run by such friendly, welcoming people

I have been looking forward to the demo for months. Couldn't wait. Was planning on buying tickets at the door as I tried to order them online and it kept rejecting my card for some reason. But then had something happen on Saturday that turned everything upside down for us as a family and I completely forgot about it. How could I forget a Monty demo? Only realised when I saw Monty's face looking up at me from a pile of Surrey Advertisers in the newsagents. I couldn't believe I missed it. Big sigh!!!

Oh Bless you Bridge indeed hopefully they'll be a tour next year.
I helped at Hadlow on Saturday night (first time Helping) and had an amazing time it was so nice to be a part of it as well as spectating.
I have to say though I was really fond of Mia kind of reminded me of my mare when she was a youngster :-)

WOW WHAT AN EVENING AT GREENLAND'S E,CFirst we had a lovely Spanish horse (name? sorry late at night) as a starter with IHK for the Members performance. WOW was she brilliant she was a Star* in every way, accepted the rider with little fuss and learns so much in such a short time... Second we had Winston 15,3hh Frisian x Shire x Clydesdale as a starter with MONTY for the main performance, he accepted the saddle with a few circles of the round pen in a bucking fit but soon settled down again and accepted the rider with no fuss what so ever... Third we had Clyde as a restarter with MONTY he accepted the saddle with very little fuss then MONTY'S dummy rider got on board, Clyde went like a trotter/pacer around the round pen then Monty worked on Clyde and got him settled, then the real rider got on board and was very well settled. (this horse has been known to bolt and buck) Forth we had Coco who was very spooky to wards plastic and umbrella's but MONTY worked on this with Coco and soon he came to trust MONTY that he was not going to harm him with anything and soon Coco accepted spooky things, by the end of this Coco was following MONTY over the BIG blue lake with no line attached. Fifth we had Jenny-Ren a pony for bad loading and very pushy, IHK worked on her going over a wooden bridge then worked with her at the lorry but soon she decided inside the lorry was the best place to be and her owner also loaded her into the lorry her self. Sixth we had Fabian a horse for bad loading MONTY worked on him over the bridge which took him a while to step onto it then after a while he walked over the bridge after MONTY worked with him on the bridge he went to work at the lorry with this horse he was a bit tricky but then decided oh well then MONTY if i must ill step up into the lorry, after a while he was loading into the lorry without any line attached to his dually halter... The spanish horse belonged to someone called Sarah I think. Lovely mare.
Clyde's owner was thrilled when I spoke to her. She was really chuffed with the way that he had gone and was hoping to carry on the good work at home with the same positive results.
Coco was fantastic. After despooking with the plastic bag and the umbrella, they put out a lake (aka big tarpaulin, no actual water involved lol) in the middle of the round pen - Monty took her out of the round pen when the lake was being set up. Monty took her back in and let her wander round loose and she decided to walk on the lake herself after about 5 mins.
This was just after Monty had said about watching a video where the same process took 2 hours 9 mins on a video that IHK had given him to watch. The horse on the video only put a foot on the lake at the end of the video.
Sixth horse was Fabian (spelling ?). In the end he was trotting up the ramp into the box on his own. The helpers put round pen sides up around the area so he had less space to tank off into. I couldnt see this one properly as I was sat over by the IH village.

I went to Carlisle last night, there were 6 of us, 3 of whom have no contact with horses. We all really enjoyed it and my nana who usually spends most of her time talking was quiet and sat on the edge of her seat. The only 2 things that weren't so good was the attitude of the car parking attendants we found them very rude and unhelpful. Also we couldn't see any of the loading into the horsebox. It was parked right in the corner of the school so about 8 rows in the tiered seating couldn't see a thing. If the box had been reversed to the entrance of the round ren everyone would have been able to see. They are only minor criticisms to what was a really enjoyable evening

I enjoyed it as well - I alwsys learn somethign new. Grey2008 it was lovley to meet you shame we didn't really have time for a proper chat - but I always like to meet Dgers! Least we kind of know there are more of us Cumbria peeps out there. Because it was so luverly and warm at 3pm - guess who forgot to put all her winter woollies in the car - my goodness - did I freeze!
I know Coco - and it was very pleasing to see her walking over the lake - she had a mystery for her early life - and it will be interesting to see how she progresses...
I'll be at Myerscough too (with a stall this time with prints of paintings on - so do come and say hullo!) on the Saturday.

Hi Emma, I thought they would have moved the horsebox as well. On the other hand, the horses were used to the box being parked there and moving it before the demo or during the demo wouldnt have been practical (with people sat there, horses in school etc). You should have come and said Hi and introduced yourself It would have been great to meet you. Oh Cameo, you dafty forgetting your winter stuff. Dont forget them when you go to Myerscough. It was lovely n warm until about half 6 and then whoomph the temp dropped drastically. I was so cold the 2nd half, I had t-shirt, hoodie jumper, thick reversible padded waistcoat, padded waterproof coat on and blanket round my legs as well. I didnt warm up till it was time to get packed up. Have Coco's owners thought about putting an advert on Tracing Equines and seeing if someone out there recognises her ?

That is a good idea about Coco...
I have just been to Steve Thompson's forum and just read how "Cameo si alaways so prepared she even brings spare blankets!!
Didn't happen this year did it!!
Apparently Myerscough is [glow=red,2,300]heated[/glow]!
But I will still take all my proper demo kit this time (hats, blankets, gloves, thick socks, neckwarmer, two jumpers, coat, leg warmers, whiskymac, gas fire, kitten...

WOW what another brilliant demo!!
FIRST Tammy, 15.2h, 5yo, Belgian Warm blood - Clipper phobia - Members demo with IHK. Tammy was very unsettled with the clippers and would not tolerate the clippers near her. IHK and her rider Rosie worked on this problem by playing loud music to help hide the sound of the clippers. After some schooling and keeping close contact with the clippers and with the music getting quieter at each stage of the despooking of the clippers they were able to touch Tammy with the clippers.
SECOND Maisie, 15.1h,3yo, TB - Starter - with MONTY Monty first done join-up with Maisie, took a while for Maisie to settle down to join-up with MONTY. Monty then let Maisie look and smell the saddle and then Monty placed the saddle into place and done up the girth. Monty sent Maisie round the pen, she was happy with the saddle (no bucks) but was very tense as you could see it in her neck as her head was high and her neck was locked stiff, Monty schooled her changing direction then Maisie relaxed and was lowering her head to the soil licking and chewing, Monty then done Join-Up. Monty's rider Adrian then came in the pen and let Maisie get to know him before he got put in the saddle. Adrian then lent over the saddle a few times with no fuss and Maisie was really settled at this point. Adrian then got on the saddle feet in stirrups and let loose in the pen. Maisie walked round the pen as though she has been through this all before MONTY'S words IT'S A MIRACLE. Owners Thought's - Judith Judith was very pleased with the outcome and thought it was very good and what she expected. Owner Judith going to carry onto the next level with Maisie. Judith also said it was very interesting to see a real horseman work with her horse.
THIRD Indian Summer, 15h STALLION, 4yo, Cob x TB - Restarter, wont accept rider - With MONTY Summer refuses to stand still and has previously threw a rider off and has reared up and gone over back wards. Monty put the saddle on Summer then let loose, Summer bucked a little but not much, Heidi Monty's brilliant rider (DUMMY) came in the pen. Heidi got put up and down on the saddle more times than once as Summer would not stand still so he got schooled till he learns to stand still so Heidi could get put into the saddle. while Heidi was getting strapped on Monty was not standing beside summer he was in front of summer about 6-8 ft away with a relaxed horse. Monty's words IT'S A MIRACLE. Monty then let summer loose he took one buck and carried on trotting round the pen, Summer was very settled. Monty then long reined him and was very settled at this point with head carried low and licking and chewing. Heidi then dismounted. Monty's rider Adrian then got onto the saddle with no fuss and accepted the rider, Summer was very relaxed. Owners Thought's - Stephi Stephi thought it was great and was happy to see Summer behave, Stephi didn't expect a rider on summer in such a short time. Stephi going to carry on the work herself but said if she needs any further help she will contact her local RA Steve Thompson. Outcome is to be able to ride Summer and take him onto his next level.
FOURTH Angel, 14.2h, 7yo, cob - Loader - with IHK Angel was very hesitant to go near the lorry. Kelly worked on Angel for a while and soon Angel walked up into the lorry.
FIFTH Duke, 17.2h, 10yo, Irish Sports Horse - Loader - with MONTY Duke has been known to get half way up ramp turn around and bolt. Monty schooled duke then schooled him over a wooden bridge, took a few attempts but Duke stepped on the bridge and over it. Monty then went to work on the lorry. Duke was very hesitant to step onto the ramp but with the help of Ian and Adrian on one end of the line in the lorry and Monty schooling Duke at the bottom of the ramp Duke loaded but would panic to be out of the lorry. Monty schooled Duke down the ramp step by step and in the end duke was loading on his own with Monty in the lorry and IHK letting Duke loose at the bottom of the ramp..
