stunning horse with a rider issue. I think thats a slightly harsh comment. My interpretation of Montys comentary was that the mare was grith sensitive and yes, that could have been handled in a more sensitive way but this was a young owner with a sensitive mare. Unfortunately the previous help she had sought had been of the wrong kind. A super super mare and I wish them both all the best. As for Bailey... well, where are you Shelley?? take a bow ;D ;D ;D that was one chilled out boy who was obviously well prepared for his moment of fame. He was an absolute credit to all your hard work, what a pro. You should be very proud of him, even if he did make it all look very easy for Monty ;D ;D The "serial spooker" was just gorgeous, a big lad, who demostrated spook busting brilliantly, he was so very bothered by plastic and umbrellas to begin with and then to be walking over tarpualin and under a brolly by the end And the bad loader / unloader; loading so quickly in such a short time. brilliant

cookie this wasnt a harsh comment at all and even with the girth it was still a rider issue. like you said it is how you interpert it.
not quite sure how to phrase the others that were there now.

don't worry about your phrasing, I guess just I felt particular empathy for a young girl with a sensitive mare, wasn't the owner 10 or 12 years old or something when she got the mare? you're right though, its the old thing that its not a "problem horse"...

thanks for all your comments about bailey ;D the spooky boy was called ryan the irish bog trotter and he was gorgeous.monty did a fantastic job with him, i dont know if you could see in the audience but i was sat next to the pen and this poor boy had every muscle in his body trembling at the beginning, the lady that owned him was really pleased, she loved her horse you could tell. i hope they now enjoy some really nice hacks together

the girl had had her 10 years i believe, since she was 8 (the girl was 8 I think). Monty made it all look so easy, and he and kelly were a pleasure to work with, no egos or hidden agendas, it was a pleasure to do, and daughter learnt so much seeing it.

I went to the Hadlow demo (I know very late in the Thread but been busy) it was amazing. I took my brother and niece for the first time and they were amazed so much that my 11 yr old niece is now a new member. I also took a friend of my mothers and she cried all the way through it (no she wasn't the baby who cried at the beginning)she found the whole experience incredible.
This was my third time at one of monty demos and each time I learn something new, my only complaint was I thought the IH demo started at 7.00pm so even though I was there at 6.15pm I MISSED it (I didn't' read the tickets properly!!!!!!)

I would like to thank Monty, Kelly and all the rest of the team for making the demonstration at ILPH Snetterton so special for my horse and I. I brought my lovely 3 year old Lusitano gelding, Afeito, to be used at the demo. Monty worked with him for over an hour in the evening, getting him used to rugs, plastic, long lining and having a rider belly over him. This cumulated in Monty following up with Afeito following him over a huge tarpolin.
Afeito had previously been turned out with a herd of other youngsters before coming to me in July. He had not experienced a lot of things and was very nervous of rugs, plastic etc.
After getting Afeito home, I have carried on with desensitising him to scary things and he has improved remarkedly.
Thanks to you all once again. It was truly an amazing experience.
Christine Johnstone and Afeito

I went to the Towerlands demo too, and I thought it was the best I've been to so far, in that it was the most informative. Shame Monty wasn't riding again though, as OH missed it last year and really wanted to see him ride . I suppose you can't have everything... I just loved Bailey - absolutely, totally, gorgeous and how lucky that his owner managed to rescue him. He was such a credit to her. If she ever thinks about selling him, I would definitely be in the queue! It was great seeing Kelly doing the clipper work at the beginning too - it's such a common problem that a lot of people seem to think can only be "cured" by sedation, so it was good to see a practical demonstration of how to begin to overcome it. My friend recognised someone in the audience who has always been more inclined towards the "just kick it or whack it" school of training, so that was really encouraging - hopefully they will reassess the way they handle horses in future. Overall, a really great demo and I hope there will be another one next year.

I went to the Grange demo last night in Okehampton and it was absolutely fantastic. The starter was a beautiful mare named Xena, who was straight out of the field and 5 years old and was an amazing example of how much ground can be covered with kindness and respect (and perfect timing, handling etc!). The next horse was Jasmine, who had clearly had some unhappy times since Monty worked with her 2 years ago for differemt owners. It was great seeing her come round and relax as she began to feel comfortable again and it was emotional for everybody in the room when Aidrian was able to mount her and ride her quietly round the pen. The spooky horse was a lovely big grey called Blue who was terrified of everything at first but was soon walking happily next to Monty over tarpaulin with no lead rope. He was also one of the loaders and it was great seeing his confidence grow as he loaded himself and then followed his owner in. The other loader, Mr Pickles respoded beautifully to Kelly's handling and was soon loading perfectly aswell; though at the very end of the night, while all the clearing up was been done and the demo had finished, he apeared to have some issues which were related to him not being happy to stand tied in the box. Monty, Kelly and the team put a lot of time and effort into him despite the fact it was heading past the wrong side of midnight and eventually all got away from the venue safely. Thank you Monty, Kelly and the Team for another fantastic demo x PS I forgot to mention the private audience horse - Charlie - the very handsome coloured cob who was scared of needles/vets and clippers. What a brave boy he was in the end :-)
