Loved watching all the videos and yes Derek is right as the problem with having a short backed Iberian especially makes them so much stiffer through their back and it takes alot of the correct lateral work especially in walk I find to help soften it. Every schooling session is spent with a long time just in walk to help free it up and i've found out of all the different ways of teaching by far the best way of training for a Iberian or Iberian type is the French Classical Boucher way. Loved the video of the person in the duck outfit the horse had some much lightness and really sat behind in the Piaffe it was a joy to watch. The terre a terre is one of my little horses favourite movements as all whom have met him will confirm lol :-) He finds the airs above the ground so easy and boy does he sit and many a time i've had a huge Capriole from a terre a terre when he is at his most excited. Hopefully he will be good enough to put a video up of the things he can do in the next few months as he has really come on these past few months and things are starting to all come together.

Hi becky1simba, Wow, another Baucher fan! A rare breed indeed How did you get interested in that way of working? Is it from books or contact with someone? Feel free to PM if you prefer. Best wishes, Derek

Hi Derek i've also been into the classical way of going and had a few weeks training with Peter Maddison-Greenwell over a couple year period when Simba was first broken in and the couple of years afterwards. Then I managed to get on a French Classical clinic with Francois Lemaire de Ruffieu that LisaP kindly organised a few years back and i've not looked back since. Francois was amazing and he had Simba going like he has never gone before and I now wouldn't be taught by anyone else apart from Heather Moffett whom I had a few lessons from and she also had Simba going really well even though he was stressed out of his mind with lots of stuff going on round him that was doing his head in as he is a real stress head!! You will have to come up and watch Francois teaching on the next clinic next May you would love it :-)

Becky - Derek came to watch the clinic at Hunter's Gate when Jean-Louis was there, although I can't remember if he left before Simba was on. Not many people forget Simba, lol, especially as I think he was using SW as an evasion a lot on that clinic, lol! ;D

Oh didn't realise he had seen Francois already, yes Simba's favourite thing on that clinic was doing Spanish Walk as an evasion as well as terre a terre and also changing leads in canter earlier and earlier when we were trying to just do canter to the centre line then back to the track. Naughty pony lol :-)
