yes but when you are given a horse and not paying for it you obviously don,t have the choice, i for one am on a livery yard so couldn,t take in a colt etc so choice has to come into it and the horse would be rescued but i am not asking anyone to pay for it i am sorry but what would happen to the horse that osmeone else has paid for if it arrives at the destination and needs major attention by the vet who would pay for that the person who has paid for the horse or the person who now has the horse but hasn,t got the money i am not nitpicking but surely this needs to be thought of quite seriously

Fair do's you lot! If someones planning to spend the rest of their life with an animal they have to like it in the first place otherwise its just taking an animal for the sake of it--an animal is for life!

Now while I agree to an extent - in that we are trying to save horses - hasnt everyone who has taken a horse selected to some degree? i cant home a colt - I also cant home a mare in foal with foal at foot as i dont have my own yard and cant afford the livery of three which it will result in
I have been looking for a horse I think I can help and will fit into my herd for their benefit and the rescued horse - I cant have an elderly horse incase diesel leaps all over her or him and its too much to cope with for the horse.
Im not saying I want to offer a home to the best or flashiest - I just dont want the poor horse to travel thousands of miles to people when on paper they are pretty sure it wont work
saying that im a sucker so no good at saying no to any horse

Hi sarahfox, I cant work out how to PM either, my email is Lisapeoples10@aol.com, as I said I have a 5* permanent home here waiting, I am completely ready, also I would take any horse or pony, I dont think I could chose, so whatever is not on the safe list. I'm just a bit further away over in in Northern Ireland, County Antrim. If anyone can tell me how to PM.... help..please

I can accept both sides of this argument - no we can't pick and choose, these animals are needy, but some horses can't go to some homes. I can take a colt and could take a mare & foal which would be slightlymore difficult but I could and would do it. If I were on a livery yard however things would be different. But we do need to stay on topic and not turn this into an argument, I do think that the comment was made in a light hearted way rather than being serious.

Hi Maggiesmum, could you pm either myself or melissa as we will be happy to help you sort out saving one of the horses, but unfortunately I STILL can't figure out how to pm!!!! Good point, btw, although I must say that I am really impressed by the way that people on this forum can tackle emotive issues without becoming aggressive, not found it to be that common in the horse world to be so polite and understanding! But then I guess thats why it's the IH website!
