I am aghast that the BHS is endorsing the Parelli 'Celebration' in the latest issue of British Horse.
In the light of the two incidents where Linda P was whacking a one eyed horse around the head with a heavy rope, and the infamous 'Catwalk' incident last year, I would have thought that a welfare orientated society such as the BHS wouldnt go within a mile of the Parellis.
I put a spanner in the works the last time they tried to infiltrate the BHS, by sending the PD dept a copy of that 'In a Whisper Challenge' whereby three 2 yr old colts were taken straight off the range, no physical preparation, and forced into a programme of work whereby they had to be able to be ridden in walk, trot and canter, jump some small jumps, and be able to go backwards and sideways and trail a bale of hay round an arena, in the space of just two and a half hours. I asked the BHS if they wanted to be seen to be endorsing treatment of horses in this way? The impending collaboration, appeared to die.
But now, the advert for the competition to win tickets to the 'Celebration' reads 'Want to experience two days that will change your life'?
'British Horse has team up with Parelli to offer three lucky readers the chance to win a pair of tickets to the 2011 Parelli Celebration'.
It then goes on in typical Parelli marketing speak, which as usual has me with my fingers down my throat.,
I am now BHS County Chairman for Devon. I am about to write to the current National Chairman, Dr Phil Wadey, but need evidence of that awful video of Linda whacking that poor half blind horse round the eye. As if the video of Catwalk wasnt enough, that video of Linda is beyond the pale. Has anyone a copy of the Level One DVD that it was part of?
I have a feeling my tenure as Chairman may be short lived.

Edited to add that I now have the clips, which have been sent to Graham Cory, Chief Executive of the BHS along with my protest. Do please write to your Regional Development officers, and Graham Cory to register your protest at this endorsement of methods which to my mind, do not in any way reflect the welfare aims of the Society.
