Announement:
Jackie is away now until after the New Year so won't be able to help with any more questions on this thread until then.
I will post up the link for her own site later today so that you can find out more there.

Hi Jackie, I know your away but am hoping you can give me some advice when you come back. My rising 15 year old arab has been having trouble with undiagnosed stiffness in the hind quarters for the last couple of years .He is a really good doer who has been living on grass 24\7 with some chaff in the winter. He is not very protein tolerant, cant eat alfalfa or flax oil as he gets swollen legs & belly, & also becomes hyper to the point you cant handle him. After struggling to deal with the stiffness with constant vet & physio visits the latter which helps a lot in the short term, I came across one of your threads which made me look at his diet, he is now on 375g Equilibre(which he has had in the past & got on with) he should be on 500g but is only working in hand at the moment due to a back injury!,he also has 50ml of Global herbs movefree liquid & 2 thirds of a 25ml scoop of magnesium mixed in 1\2 scoop of hi fi lite. He is still having physio due to the back injury & Im very pleased with how much he has freed up although we still have bad days, but all of a sudden this last week his joints have really started cracking! he has been on the global herbs for about a month, & the mag for about 3 weeks, is this normal as it starts to progress through his system?

Hi Jackie.
I hope that you can help me.
We rescued two French colts, now approximately two year old geldings in August. They are around 16hh and similar to a cob in build.
They were exmined by the vet initially and were in good health although overweight having been on a French fattening farm.
We continued to feed them hay and they had not particular rich grazing 24/7.
They are still out full time and have grown lovely ,thick winter coats however I have not put them on hard feed as there was plenty of grazing.
One has now lost quite a lot of weight quite rapidly and he has always been quite slow in himself.
I have read on the rescue site that the fat farm horses can be prone to liver damage and I am concerned.
I will call a vet but would like to start feeding hard food and supplements immedietely .What do you suggest and how frequently to start.
The rest of our herd are good doers and had a lot of grazing over the summer so am now just feeding hay at night as they are all maintaining their weight.
This is the first year I have fed no hard feed.
However we took on a rescued racehorse age 4 in the summer and we have been unable able to feed him seperately this winter as he was part of the herd. He has now been moved to a small paddock with an abcess which he is prone too and this is a good opportunity to give him some hard feed. What would you suggest ?At the moment he too has maintaind his weight. His companion is a good doer pony , prone to overweight and laminitus.I will probably have to give her something to satisfy her at the same time.
Obviously any feed or sulpplements suitable for all the above horses would be useful for finances and storage(as no storage facilities at field).
I would be grateful for any advice.
