If boyfriend is groom in ring, make sure he is smart and wears hat not a cap. Take of saddle (him) run a brush over saddle area then you will be called out by steward to stand in front of judge, please practice this too as its an art!, many judges now drop you a place for not presenting well, stand in direction of the walk away, walk of smartly in direct straight line from judge, about 12 steps away, do a slight left shallow loop so that as you turn back towards judge you are by then directly in front of her, trot on and run at her (honest she will move) she needs to watch the action, keep going around the corner and run down the back of line up, I also think it polite to acknowledge judge with bow after this trot (some look away before but if they haven't and you dont do it its perseved as bad manners), when you do the stand up bit at first, make sure no hind legs are resting or awkwardly stood and you need to allow judge to see all four legs with the ones closest to judge furthest apart, then when she walks the other side move horse back to change the stance accordingly.
Failing that stay at home and relax

the shanked bit is the weymouth and the little bit is a bradoon. My PBA couldn't take a double in her mouth either so i've always shown her in a pelham

Double posted sorry.
On the double you have there is the weymouth and the bradoon (bradoon is bit looking like snaffle) Remove both of these and the spare headpiece if you want to try a pelham and make sure if you use it on the day to have curb chain and lip strap or you will be undressed.

do a slight left shallow loop so that as you turn back towards judge you are by then directly in front of her i have always been told to turn to the right so that you do not block the horse from the judge... or is this just for endurance? doy ou mean go round the back then return to your place, or go right round the line up and return to the judge? thanks so much by the way! i reaaly appreciate this!!

You will have to work out your show according to the ring and where you are lined up in it. Can you go to another county show to watch first, that's the best way of learning ! When shall we start work Carole???lol, how near to me are you?

You do turn to the right, but deviating to the left a little before you do your right turn back makes sure you that you are head on to the judge when you trot back towards him/her rather than to one side doy ou mean go round the back then return to your place, or go right round the line up and return to the judge? thanks so much by the way! i reaaly appreciate this!! Back to your place in the line up. I've never heard of doing a bow afterwards and don't remember it ever being done in 15 years of county showing

What Cubic, are you joking??? What do you do when you finish infront of the judge? I don't mean a bending bow, I mean dipped head and one hand off the rein and swept backwards, you have been to HOYS, you must have done that

I don't mean a bending bow, I mean dipped head and one hand off the rein and swept backwards, you have been to HOYS, you must have done that Carole in the top post on this page seemed to be saying that you bow after the run up in hand - I've always just trotted away from the judge and back to the line up. At the end of the ridden show, yes, you bow - but normally a nod of the head is sufficient in adult classes, while children (and some adults) use their arm too.
