I agree, there seems to be a real shortage down here just now. And what you're after is just what I would want too! My feeling is that if a horse is that good most folk would be reluctant to sell. Whereabouts are you?

Lucypally, if you don't mind me asking, what is your budget? Horses like this do exist, but they are definitely not cheap! You want the most popular size - at 15.00-16.-00 The most popular age 5-10 Alround good in the stable and sane and sensible to hack out. Doesn't sound like a big ask, but if you owned a horse like this would you be selling it? We've bought a couple of horses that fit this bill, and neither of them gave us any change from nearly £6000. However, they were and are worth their weight in gold.

It does seem to take forever but it will happen, and is usually when you arent looking, and not what you at all thought you would want. I normally go with it in my head that it prob wont be suitable, so delighted when they are, but equally not disappointed when they arent what im looking for. Not that im looking any more phew! Saying all that, i had decided Apollo was coming home before i had met him, providing Mollymoo was going to let me take him, which she did ;D

yup, i spent years. Had some one loan, one i really loved but they wouldnt sell, even tho they had said they would in the beginning. Took me a long time after that. I tried all sorts of shapes, sizes, heights etc, and i thought i wanted a pony and ended up with a giant shire x ardenne

Hi I have a shire x mare o part loan which is bridging the gap at the moment. I would buy her tomorrow but the owner loves her to much. Been riding her 3 years now and got a nice bond with her but when you watch her with her owner you can see the difference.
That is what I miss. I was told not to look at one type so looked at everything that ticked all my boxed. From a Fell pony to a cart horse to a Pre Spanish horse and everything else in between.
Not v confused what I should be looking for.

Funnily enough my lovely mare came from around your area (from a farm just outside Penzance). I was looking for exactly the type you describe, and she certainly didn't tick the boxes as she's quite forward going and quite sharp and spooky at times, but she's been brilliant for me. She's taught me so much, and I feel has made me a much better rider and horsewoman alround.
My friend, who also lives in cornwall, recently found a lovely sort by word of mouth via her farrier. Might be worth a try if you haven't already.
Good luck in your search. I'm sure the right one will find you just when you least expect it!

hi there
Problem I have found with trying horses from papers and internet is people just tell you what you want to hear just to sell the horse. At least locally I can do some investigation and check the horse out.
I hope to find a horse via word of mouth. Got lots and lots of contacts out just waiting now
