So could someone confirm to me what you call a pony with black tail and legs but a brown mane (with highlights)? Is that bay or is that brown?

Thank you for my girlies compliments, i'll be sure to pass them on altho she has a big enough head already. I think she is beautiful too but then i'm biased - LOL I initially thought she was quite ugly when i bought her but she has really blossomed into a pretty girly.
SS3 - she has a black nose, black everything aside from her white freezemark on the other side of her to that picture. She does get red highlights in the summer on the ends of her mane and tail but not thru her actual coat at all.

I'd like to know that as well LizP! My Rummi looks to be a bay at first, but he has brown 'highlights' to the end of his mane. I guess because of this, he's technically a brown? So if I was to pull his mane (not that i ever will! ;D), will he tranform into a bay??!!

Yep SS3, get yer zimmer frame out ;D ;D Now, to be in trouble, because I would class Rummi as a bay. I would class Bandit as a black that needed to live with my mares!! To add another question: where does liver chestnut end and chocolate or chocolate brown begin? The horses I have in mind have no black on their legs, and a varying degree of black in their manes and tails

I was always told that if a horse has a brown muzzle regardless of his point and mane and tail colour then he is brown. If you have a look at all the photos of the horses classified as brown, they have brown (mealie) muzzles.
