Gem its whether they have brown legs as well, & all the bits that would normally be black on a bay are brown, if you get me?? Sorry not very good at explaining lol. You chappie looks to have black legs, though i know pics can be deceptive. Im sure someone else can explain it better than me though (suewhitmore where are you?)Oh & a very handsome chap he is too!

lol its just not very cool he he So mean Gem, there is no bad colour for a good horse, I'm always amazed that people even care...... Navaho's cob is lovely, didn't say on the other thread, but thought it, but it's not his colour that appeals or otherwise to me, it's the lovely expression on his face.

I would love my Oliver even if he were Mr Blobby coloured with a zebra head... although I might not ride him to the pub when he's all growed up ;D
Anyone else got a ned without the little hair directional issue thing between their belly and hindquarters? (sue will know what its called lol)

Smudge, I've not read all this, but Ollie was chestnut when he was born and is chestnut now and he will remain chestnut ( unless he turns grey )lol, but whatever happens, he will never, ever, be brown. Brown's what I breed, and brown, Ollie aint

I used to have a brown horse. He was actually black but was told when registering him that this was the correct description for a very dark brown horse who had no black points (as a bay is varying shades of brown, but with black points).
Was also told that there is no such thing as a "black" horse or indeed a "white" horse, as the latter is always referred to as a grey and the former brown.
But, looking at your pics, there are definitely some brown (not black) horses that don't have black points LOL! (And they're all gorgeous!) xx

Bay horses have black manes and tails and black legs/black points, what confuses is when they don't have very high black legs or a white marking interupts and also confuses when you get sun damage to mane and tail, which I think is what made Gem wonder is Diesel was a bay or not. Ollie does seem rather an unusual chestnut though SS3, what makes him chestnut??? Weren't black horses registered dark brown as it was considered bad luck for a racing horse? (why??!)
