Just out of interest really. I've been lugging mine back and forth from home but now I'm probably going to buy a much cheaper 2nd hand one I'd be more tempted to leave it at the yard.

I keep the ponies at home and am supposed to keep my saddles in the house but I do get very lazy and leave them outside over a door. Not ideal but I get sick of carting them in and out. I will bring them in tonight!

At home, we only have a small wooden shed to keep feed in at the field. If there was a secure tack room with alarm/padlock etc then I would probably keep it there as it is a pain to lug it around everywhere as well as everything else-hats, body protector etc. Only feed is left at field atm.

Communal tack room at the yard. It did affect my thoughts on how much to spend on a saddle. If I couldn't get a cheaper one to fit I would of course have increased my budget.
It's a well secured tack room but of course no where is immune and it has been broken into in the past.
Day to day knocks by less careful people would bother me if I had an uber expensive saddle, altho to be fair it's only happened once over the years that my old saddle got a small mark I couldn't account for and suspect it was someone elses stirrups knocking it as their saddle had been left with them hanging down...

I bring both my saddle and bridle home. They are both Albion so I'd hate them to be nicked

I have 5 saddles.. The handmade gfs and Albion cost a small fortune so I usually keep them at home and the winged and pony saddles are locked away at my yard..

In my scruffy, unlocked tackroom under covers! I bring them in during the worst weather in case they get mould.

I keep mine in a communal tackroom whick is locked and alarmed. I chose my peg carefully and have cover on my saddle but have never had any issues with other people knocking it etc. To be honest I think I'd probably do more damage to it if I had to shove it in my car every time.

They were in a tack room at home - but the damp and salt air here seem to send everythign mouldy in the blink of an eye so my tack is all in the downstairs spare bedroom now so it benefits from having the heating on!! Mind you - like Pony Nutt I do tend to leave mine over doors in the barn in the summer. Not very secure!!
At my old place we used to have a comunal tack room which was very good if dusty.

Damp is our biggest problem too, Amanda.
I keep my new leather HM saddle on the landing - tried putting a bridle in the unheated utility room but it went white with mould.
Wouldn't dream of leaving it in an unlocked outside shed/tackroom!

We only have a very insecure communal tack room, and my insurance informed me they wouldn't insure my tack if kept there. So the saddle lives at home. One advantage is that the car park is actually closer to the yard than the tack room, so it saves me a bit of time when rushed. Though at the moment, I don't even bother with a saddle and just ride with a numnah (Waiting for saddle fitter appointment...)

I have ours in our tackroom however after being broken into at our previous home there is now metal on the door, cctv and flood lights to light up the area surrounding, a guard dog lives in there and any livery wishing to leave tack in the tack room must have a lockable saddle rack and all bridles are kept in a locked metal cupboard. These are my saddles locked up.

I'm on a livery yard - my tack is kept at home. It is a nuisance lugging it back and forth but .... having had a bridle disappear from a communal tack room (another livery being less than careful when she sold a pony - she sent my bridle with it by mistake!) I would never take the risk of a communal tack room, however well secured, again. It caused a lot of upset and bad feeling. I did get my bridle back eventually, but the incident made me realise that I wouldn't have been insured as there hadn't been a break in.

We have a communal tack room. It is a metal shipping container with plywood floor and walls actually... Which is locked on all the bottom closures, alarmed and YO lives on site with CCTV and floodlights. Everyone at our yard is very nice and it is only a fairly small yard, I hadn't even considered other liveries taking/damaging tack! Never had a problem. Rather like this: www.hiwtc.com/photo/products/39/00/76/7666.jpg the feed room is one of these too!

My tack was in a communal tack room when I was at livery in the uK (probably had no idea how much thieving went on!)
Now the horses are at home the tack is stored in a corner of the living room :-) just next to my computer corner hahaha.
