ive got my own rack room with a key /number pad/coded security door, that bolted in either side of the door, so if anyone wants in they will have to take the door down, its like a block/brick box all 4 sides bar the door,

apparently Quainton Stud have just had 5 expensive saddles plus bridles stolen - its a very smart place so I am sure it had 'good' security.... ours are at home we use saddlemates to carry tack to and from the yard, not too inconvenient. Our yard's tack rooms aren't locked, we have had intruders before but nothing taken as only low value items are left there.

My saddles are at home. Gazdag is a spoiled pony and has three saddles, costing over £4.5k in total, so there's no way I would leave them at the yard. All three are postcoded. My boyfriend is a DI in South Yorkshire police, they are getting a LOT of tack thefts at the moment.

Interesting. I've had a bit of a blitz on security. I had my saddle stamped by Sussex Police, they do the occasional drop in day where they'll mark saddles for people and I'll definitely be doing it again with the next one I buy, if I hadn't joined Horsewatch I'd never have known that was going on.
I added my tack on to Talin's insurance and it is covered in my car as long as it's in the boot with the luggage cover over it, not on display. I don't think it'd be covered in our tack room as the security isn't great and it's remote and quiet, I doubt anyone would notice a break in. I have everything I'm not using regularly at home including rugs, boots, spare reins etc as even though none of it is uber expensive it all adds up and would be a pain in the butt to try to replace it all. And I've stamped every bit of leather I own with my post code, and written it on everything else - even buckets - with a sharpie to act as a bit of a deterrent.

Uuuugh, why are people so slimey as to steal everything thats not bolted to the earth??? Mine are in my horse trailer tack room, which has a very secure door with a regular lock and a deadbolt. The trailer, however can be stolen... hence its insured through my auto insurance. It would be a supreme pain to replace and I shudder to think the amount of $$ invested in all of it.
