I have converted my understairs cupboard into a tiny tackroom ;D It is a pain lugging it back and forth to the yard but we are pretty isolated out there and break ins are rife in the local area - a risk I don't want to take! Plus, I get to clean tack in front of the fire while watching H&C! How bad is that? ;D

The most secure tackroom rarely presents a problem to a determined and dedicated thief. Always take saddles home or they WILL go, one day! Oh and you have all got your property marked with your postcode, haven't you?!

Agree with RJ. The tackroom was really secure at my old yard or so we thought but it was still broken into and all tack taken. I keep mine at home now. I'd rather a few minutes inconvenience lugging it about than it disappearing. It's on a saddle rack in my spare room.

I have a shared tack room between me and the lady that is loaning Lola. This suits me fine as I trust her. We shut the tack room if we are not right near it just incase.
However, I have taken out tack insurance for an extra £5 a month, and am prepared to replace it if I loose it (nothing sentimental kept in there) Would recommend anyone looking at tack cover checks and double checks t&cs as it does not always cover it (luckily mine does)

At home - it is worth more than my pony is, so very careful with it!

Just to add I think I might take it home if it was really expensive. Currently my tack which is at the yard adds up to less than £500 (not including numnahs, boots etc, which are kept there too) so yes, a fair amount but not relative to others!

At the moment my car is my tack room. At my field only have a haybarn and my new puppy, Storm, would think it was an uber expensive puppy chew if I had it in the house

It's not just how expensive it is though, it's the inconvenience if it does get stolen, even if your stuff is cheap, it takes a while to get new stuff sorted through insurance and in the meantime you can't ride.
When the tackroom was broken into at my old yard the only thing of mine that went was a cheap Libby's bridle (my saddle was at home being cleaned) but even that was a pain cause I used that bridle a lot.

up until today we've kept ours at the yard, but as the farm was broken into in broad daylight today, I've brought them home

The wow is at home, no way I'd leave it at the yard! It's worth more than Shad would be. Vogue is still in the tack room though but I'm contemplating bringing it home too especially as I'm not using it anymore/at the mo.

I keep mine in the communal tack room at the yard. It is a secure extension to the YO's house and there is almost always someone at home. There are also 3 dogs and floodlights. We all have a key and the tack room is left locked.
There is the added bonus of a washing machine too for numnahs etc. I've never felt that my tack is at risk of going missing there

Sorry to go on, but the tackroom at my old yard that got broken into was in the horsebarn, which is attached to the YO's house, it had 3 massive padlocks and a big steel door, plus a guard dog stationed outside and security lights. They came in the night and YO didn't hear a thing.
Two of the saddles were padlocked to the saddle racks, so the thieves pulled the whole saddlerack off the wall!
I keep my 3 saddles at home.

We had ours done too Jes at our other house, however I did wake up (I am a very light sleeper) saw them drive down, was on the phone to the police whilst they were breaking in and they were in and out within 6 minutes whilst still on phone to police.
I have tried my best to make the tackroom as secure and as difficult as possible for them to get to the tack, all tack is locked away the saddle racks are in the wall on 12 inch anchor bolts (not little screws), the dog will bite, all tack is postcoded and smartwatered, the door is metal lined so they cannot ram raid it like they did the last door (which was lever locked and security coded), security lights and wireless cctv that records 24/7 and takes photos. I have had our local countryside watch police officer out to see and our insurance company (after our last lost was over £10k on insurance all of which was private stuff) and have things as tight as we can, as the police officer said they want to be in and out quickly they dont wont to be on site longer than needed so delaying tactics are the best I can hope for, plus they have to drive down past my house on a single track drive to get to yard (no access across fields) and are at risk of being blocked in by a car if they try.
My two prestige saddles are in the house but house is not big enough for everyones stuff and liveries dont want to lug tack back and forward and leaving it in their cars invalidates they insurance, so this is the next best option I can do, and hope that we have done enough to deter, if not it is all insured again and hopefully with postcodes and smartwater we may catch who has done it.

Mine are in a communal tack room. Ones that aren't being used are at home. Tack room is quite secure and well hidden and I don't have anything really expensive.
