Totally agree marychick about the self fulfilling propechy, and I think we all make these happen to a greater or lesser extent as a result of our upbringing/background/experience.
I think we would all agree that horses are as diverse as humans, though not as complex, and would all agree we need to avoid the 'one size fits all' approach and then blame the horse rather than our approach when it doesn't.
I think, perhaps, the main disagreement is around the word 'personality' and our different perception of what this means?

Hehe I agree- the more I read this thread the more I realise we're all basically saying the same thing but just nit picking about termonology! But then that's what I love about this forum- lots of like minded people!! I'm sure if this thread was on some other horsey forums this would have got very heated by now!

Ok, then, I've made the case against pigeonhole personality profiles - make the case for them. Why are they any better than starting with a bit of horse psychology and an open mind? What method do you use and why? What made you want to look at it in the first place? etc. I'm not trying to be confrontational, I promise. I'm happy to learn from anyone who's got something to teach. This hasn't been addressed yet, and I would be very interested to hear an answer anyone? If it confirms that we are just disagreeing on what a 'personality' is, and we are saying the same thing, or if I have misunderstood?

I am struggling with this. I took ages to replace a hore who was PTS with something who caught my eye.. she has not put a foot wrong.. but we just don't have that connection.

I hope the discussion continues for you sarahbing. I'll be quiet as I know some don't 'get' my posts/me sometimes. I will read and learn too.
