Holi - i'd not seen that about that sharks but I guess it makes sense because they do swim in rivers so I guess they can now go inland. A huge problem at for the rescue crews at the moment are crocodiles and snakes. Everyone that gets out of a boat to rescue man or beast is putting themselves at risk of attack/snake bite and oz is home to a few of the world's most venomous snakes. The rescuers are so fantastically brave. I always feel for the animals when these natural disasters strike - I can't help feel just a bit guilty that by them being kept as pets/livestock they are unable to follow their natural instincts and get out of harms way because they are locked indoors/stables/field etc. I suppose at the time you just do what you think is best. Jane - was that stud that lost all those horses in an area that was not expected to flood? I was reading that the owner is one of the richest men in Australia and just thought he, if anyone, may have had the chance to get some of those horses moved before it was too late. It must have been awful to be one of employees sitting on the roof whilst the horses drowned beneath you - I can't even begin to imagine it. RIP Poor horses

Very sad, glad to see the horses trying to climb on the roof made it. Terrible cuts on the poor things though.
Horses - for all their self-destructive moments - have a pretty amazing ability to survive what Nature throws at them. Seems like that have alot more common sense is these situations than people do.

Oh god - just heard this from one of our local vets - Marburg is in the Lockyer Valley as well. Incomprehensible. I'm sitting here with a heavy, heavy heart.
>>> I heard from a vet nurse from Laidley today, that 400 horses in and around the small township of Marburg alone have died, with some trainers losing their whole team
Still awaiting that Paypal address... please help those who are struggling on...

The amount of horses who must now have perished is incomprehensible. I look forward to hearing how we can help.

Thanks for that Jane---------------- I always think that the one thing you can say about the Horse World is that everyone supports each other. I should imagine even the smallest donation will help the survivors of this horrific tragedy. xxx

I've been wondering too- it is unimaginable, the sheer scale of flooding and how many lives, both human and animal have been lost. We may moan about our weather here, but really, we probably live in one of the most temperate climates anywhere in the world, and should count our blessings. It is situations like these that bring it home how fortunate we really are.
Thanks for that link Jane, will put it on my forum too.

I have sent a donation. So pleased to hear that the horses resting on the roof were OK. We were talking about this today at home and how awful it looked for them.
It is so awful to hear of all the loss of human life like that poor boy that was swept away. Terrible for everyone in Queensland. Thoughts are with you.
