Just read your post and my heart goes out to you. has the vet tested for isulin intolerance yet? The august xrays do show that the foot has developed more of a sole to protect it, which is good. Do be vigilant when the farrier is trimming to make sure that he does not touch the sole at all. the foot needs it. only harm can be done if it is paired back.

Today went really well, having the x ray machine on hand to check after the farrier had trimmed was ideal as they could keep tweaking until they were both happy.
They have taken her down two shoes sizes and she looks like she has pony feet at the mo.
Bit gruesome when the farrier took the toes back exposing the blood y tissue but Scarlet was a star.
New shoes put on and both farrier and vet were really pleased with how she walked back to the stable and the alignment they managed to create.
New plan sugar and iodine pads over exposed areas once a day and review in 3 weeks with farrier trim expected at week 4. Continue with one bute twice a day.
Vet happy with weight and did comment on how happy and upbeat she was.

Thank you Mandal, we need all the luck and good feelings we can get. I was really worried about today, more so than I think I was even letting on to myself if last nights nightmares were anything to go by Gave Scarlet a good scratch this evening before dinner, she amazes me such a happy horse considering everything she is going through.

I think the last trim has really helped. I thought she would be really sore from the severe trim and exposed tisue but she is back to her normal (pre lami) bolshy self!
Do you think the last trim maybe released pressure hence her being more comfortable? Def walking better than she has been.
Getting very bored in the stable - destroying it and bashing me around a bit just to make sure I understand!

Really pleased to hear she's feeling better. ;D If the farrier took a lot of toe then yes I'm sure the trim has taken the pressure off. Tell him whatever he's doing, keep it up!

Thank you Sam! Just to see her returning to her normal self warms my heart, it was doom and gloom for so long and I know we are no where near being out of the woods but this has got to be good. :-)

Great to hear she is feeling so much better! Mmmm I know diet is the main thing but this (probably) shows that trim can be very helpful too. Fingers getting cramp from being crossed so I'm sending good vibes instead!!!

She has been on the diet Jackie recommended since Saturday so hopefully the combination of trim and new diet are working!
Thank you for your good vibes all gratefully rec'd!

Can't answer that one without photos/x-rays post trim, but it certainly sounds like it. If he took down the heels like I'd hoped, then I would think its been much relief to her. I'm really glad to hear things are getting better for you both, its all in the diet management for you both from now on. All the best.

it was doom and gloom for so long and I know we are no where near being out of the woods but this has got to be good. :-) Absolutely! With laminitis any little improvement is cause for celebration, so you have every right to get excited about such a big difference in comfort. Would you mind posting the details of the diet you're now using including supplements, might be helpful for others in a similar position not knowing what to try.
