It seems everyone is moaning about how cold it is and frozen things etc. I really like it all cold and crisp like this! I much prefer it to sweltering temps in the summer, I don't like it when it's too hot. It seems so long since we have had a proper winter, normally we get wet and windy and miserable weather, I'm really enjoying this cold snap. I don't even mind lugging buckets to the field because the field tap is frozen - it doesn't happen that often in the grand scheme of things and I can cope! Ok, I only have one horse to water, I might feel differently about that particular point if I had a whole herd to do Poo picking is easier because it's all frozen and easy to pick up. The only thing that is slightly irritating me is the icy roads and frozen arena meaning that riding is a bit restricted, but my guy is rising five so an enforced slow down on the education isn't a bad thing! A rest will do him no harm. Am I weird, or is anyone else enjoying the cold weather?

I don't mind the cold, I prefer it to the rain! I just don't like the dark evenings or the ice.
I still prefer summer though!

I think it looks glorious out there with the snow all around and the brilliant sunshine. It's the driving on ice to the yard etc that I don't like plus the inability to ride due to everywhere being like a skating rink that's bugging me.
There's not a breath of breeze out there either, so although still sub zero temperatures it doesn't actually feel that cold.
I hate windy wet days far more than these beautiful crisp days that's for sure! But enjoy Spring, Summer and Autumn best I have to say.

I think the cold, but not quite this cold! The arena is frozen solid, and poo picking is hard, becasue the poo is actually frozen to the ground!

Jenny, I'm exactly with you on that! I LOVE this weather! I took Lui's rug off this morning so he could have some sun on his back and a roll if he wanted to, Kira's so fluffy if my hands are cold I can just sink my hands into her coat, and the foal is SO cute when she's fluffy like a sheep! Like you said, I would so much rather this than the wet, wet, muddy, mild weather we seem to have had constantly for the past few years. The horses aren't plastered in mud, no mud fever, GREAT for their feet - no wet and soggy frogs! I have to lug water too, but it's not that hard. The ice was thick on the water this morning, but it's not like I have to push the wheelbarrow (with the water carrier in it) through thick mud! Putting hay out is much easier - you don't have to wade through the thick mud to find a clearer patch so the hay doesn't sink into it. In this weather, I often poo pick with my hands (in gloves) because it's so easy to pick up. OK, so riding is restricted. I WAS disappointed this morning when I went up to the yard and then made the decision not to ride as even the school was frozen, but the horses don't care and they get more hugs and scratches instead. And it makes me walk more - took the dogs for a long walk this morning in this beautiful winter wonderland. They're both now laying by the patio doors where the sun is streaming in. So yup, long may this cold weather last

I sort of like it like this - there's no mud, the horses are dry and cleanish, and the cold mornings look beautiful. But I'm fed up with having to take sugar beet home to soak, and filling water containers every night, and not being able to ride as the lanes are too icy. I have to take my water down the field quite a long way - my own fault for putting the water tub down there! Just a little less cold would be nice, but I'm in no hurry for the rain to return

I dont like winter full stop, I hate the rain and wind, I hate the thick sticky mud, I hate the frozen grass as its a prob for me as I like to graze my girl inhand when she is stabled and cant when it frozen solid, the ground it too hard to school and too slipery to ride in places, I hate the dark mornings and dark evenings means hacking is a no-no for me - for 5 days of the week I dont see my horse in daylight! - my mare hates rugs but cant be without them unfortunately!! and she also hates winter too so I can have a depressed horse by the end of it - I'm def a summer lass!!

I love no flies or midges!! I love finally being able to get my wheelbarrow out of the field and not being stuck in mud! But I don't like the cold wind when riding

I cannot put into words how much I hate the cold and the winter here in general. My arthritis is appauling at the moment, and constantly having to fill 12 odd buckets a day in the kitchen sink and then lift them out again has finished off my back, again. Sorry to moan, but the sooner the weather improves the better for me and the horses.

Apart from the frozen water situation I'm quite enjoying it!! By the time I've done two stables I'm as warm as toast. And I even managed a little ride on mine this morning The top layer in the school was crumbly so was ok for a little walk and trot. At -6 in the stables it was freezing but really exhilarating and my TB was bouncing around the arena despite his wool blanket!! Loved it ;D

I'd much rather it was like this too, the more sunshine the better. It is a good time of year in some respects, especially for mine where their feet are concerned, they're always at their best from now until spring. And I don't have to poo pick either
