Hopefully this proper cold will finally kill of the midges adn flies that were still buzzing around - but i'm a little concerned that it might also kill off my lorry - I know the radiator is on its last legs adn I could really do with it lasting a bit longer - I might try to start it on saturday just to see!

I like this sort of winter weather best It hammers my finger joints and I have to wheedle the tractor into starting but I have got a lot of longerining and riding done as things were very dry here up till yesterday. I have had to de frost taps and a few pipes but it isnt unusual for them to freeze so they are lagged as much as possible and dont get too much to get running again. When this frost eases my yard will get muddy again So yes, I like it, I am praying we get a better Summer than the last two though.

I love this real winter weather but just miss riding as too much ice around to risk it!

I would much prefer this weather to stay than for it to be raining which is probably what it is going to do as soon as it warms up a bit. Dry and frosty is good all my ponies are going out every day, no mud rash. It is a nuiscance having to keep getting the tap defrosted but I can live with it! Im missing riding now though, wasnt bothered at first but am now.

Yay - I'm loving the crisp frosty and sunny mornings!!
No rain! No mud!!! This is what winter is supposed to be about!!!
Getting water is slightly annoying - but I'd rather that than slipping and slidding in the mud! Also dry legs - clean feet!
And got out for about 20mins walk round surrounding fields on sunday morning!

I love it when the sun comes out. I like it cold and dry or hot and dry even windy -just not wet and grey at any temperature it just makes me feel low. and then there is the mud - Ugh.

I loved it until this afternoon, when my gas central heating packed up. Now sitting here wearing 5 layers of clothes and a woolly hat, waiting for the gas engineer man to turn up, watching the thermometer dropping dismally. Aaaarrrgh I can't even cook my tea....nope, I've gone right off this weather!!

I like this weather. Ponies can go out and I can still work them as our school is fine.

I'm enjoying the weather, no MUD, and it's actually not too slippery in the fields. All the horses have access to a feild shelter, 2 in each. It's not exactly been fun fishing out the ice layers by hand (I always take the ice OUT as it takes longer to ice up again with NO ice in) but I always put my gloves back on after and warm up again. Poo picking is easy, the droppings are LIGHTER and don't break up as easily ! I do hope a lot of the midge/fly population get decimated over this hard frost, we do NEED it. I don't know if the electric fencing works LESS efficiently in this weather as our pony just DUCKED under the electric (little swine !!) so I poured some water round the earth stakes to give it a bit more of a kick. However my Landy has died. It will be revived tomorrow when I go and get another battery and change it over. The cold has killed off what I had left of the battery, and despite 15mins attached to my husband's car jump-starting, it did NOT want to come back to life again. And I need to get more hay tomorrow for this "icy" period ! And my husband is now back from hospital with a burst L5 spinal disc, so has to stay indoors and downstairs (he is not allowed upstairs for a bit). So we've had our problems this week, but it's not the weather !! I don't mind it like this as long as the roads are gritted !

I'm being driven mad, as the yard I'm on won't turn them out if the yard is icy. So it looks like they'll be in for most of the week, and consequently my young mare will be climbing up the walls. GRR I just can't understand why they can't get some grit in and grit some paths through the ice. I asked and apparantly if the yard is gritted and someone falls over and hurt themself they can sue, but if he doesn't he's not responsible. Is this right? if so, what a crazy world we live in. Also all the yard wheelbarrows have holes in, so when you're wheeling your water back to the stable it's leaking out ready to create yet another icy trail. Grr and more Grrr
