If you took a shoe off and there was perfect red ring where the shoe had been, all way round the hoof?

Sorry not clear there. As in a nice red bruise the shape of the shoe. What would you think that caused it

Shoe too small? nailed on too tight? Dunno, sorry. Will be interested to see the outcome though.

Ah, if he was hot shod, then there would be a reddy-brown residue from the burning of shoe into hoof !??
Laminitis would only be if bleeding into white line. I get the impression mags says the red mark is in shape of shoe, so must be the width of shoe too?
So if it's just red on the white line area, then it can be concussion (from mucking about in field on frosty mornings as happened to my pony once, she had a small white line bleed once when trimmed, but that wasn't laminitis in that case) OR it can be laminitis

Was horse shod hot or cold then last time ? If the red area goes when rasped away, then it's not a bleed from the hoof. I suspect it's hot shoeing, but I may be wrong, if you can correct me please

I dont know as this was few years ago now(tis relevent though honest) but dont think its down to hot shoeing as farrier who removed shoes pointed out the bruising

Mhmm, sounds like bruising then, and maybe from too narrow a shoe width ? Sounds like a corn, but all over the shoe area ? I know that the usualy remedy for corns was to spread the weight through the shoe heels more, so wonder if that means the horse should have had a wider shoe to spread the weight more across the shoe ? (in theory to non-barefooters ?)

what is bruised? White line? Sole? Wall? All of the above?
Bruising happens at the coruim so shoeing isn't going to cause that directly. By the time you see the bruise it's going to be old (depends on how fast the growth is and how far it had to grow to be visible).
If I'd never seen the horse before and I saw a bruise I'd probably think 'oh look. a bruise' I'd note it down, possibly question the owner about what happened 3 months ago. Wouldn't worry too much about it though (depending on the answers from the owner of course).

Debbie im the owner, when I first got dan when his shoes were taken off he had the bruised feet. Cant remember exactly where other than the ring was all way round. At the time I put it down to bad shoeing(for anyone who saw gail's pics of her boys feet it was same farrier who had shod dan before this) recent events have made me wonder if there was another reason for the bruises. Will give more details in bit just want to see what ppl think first rather than infuenceing by saying whats in my head
