I have a home for Raya ( a mare from France) but as she only has about 12 days left I cannot come up with 950 that quick, so a small favour to ask but if as many people on here could put say £1 in we could probably save her, as I have funds coming in elsewhere. Any more or any less would be as gratefully received, this little mare is only 3 and has her end planned before her life has truly begun. It is an urgent case as I say she has at most 13 days left.
MTA spoken to organiser and she has around 7 days left.

Once I can scrape the money together I let the go between know then she arranges everything and then she comes when transport is available and goes into a field where she can relax and enjoy life to the max- hopefully

I am happy to donate a little - I wish it could be more but not possible atm. I hope you get the help needed to save her. de80 - I think the french horses fate is worse than most british horses - at least ours are more tightly regulated - thankfully!

Not to put a downer on it as i think its admirable you want to help, but there are hundreds of french horses everyday on count down to slaughter. I know cos i get the emails, I also wont donate, as there very recently was a case on here where people gave what they could, only to find out the mare was in foal and had a lovely foal which made the owner quite a few pennies, if other people help you to buy her, then they own a stake in her too, therefore if you wish to sell her later you would be obliged to offer the money back..this would mean some setting up to do it. again im not being negative, but i agree there are hundreds of horses in this country that need help too. I think you may well find this thread goes walkies or is moved, as i dont think the mods want to be invloved with this headache again. Sorry. Im not really a sour puss..lol

On a tangent but to illustrate a point:
There is a guy who lives near here who is a heroin addict and a total fck up - he is always filthy in dirty clothes, always covered in blood from self harming, regularly messes himself and lives in absolute squalor - his house would be a candidate for Life Of Grime it really would. However, he is a famous pop star and people want to be his friend, they want to 'help' him, girls want to look after him, middle aged mums want to take him under their wing and sort him out. I think this is because he's a bit glamorous.
I also know of another addict who is also always covered in blood, poo, wee, etc and also lives in squalor. However no-one wants to help him, look after him, take him under their wing. He's not famous and not glamorous.
I wonder if the french meat horses are becoming like the heroin addict pop star? Whats would be wrong with giving £950 to help the plight of horses anywhere else? The Brooke Hospital do marvellous work with working horses in Africa and Asia. Greatwood Racehorse rehabilitation centre - they also save horses from a horrible fate. I could go on but my potatoes are nearly done and I don't want them to boil over.
I don't like to think of French horses going on horrendous journeys for meat in the far reaches of Europe, but lets not turn them into a glamorous cause when all we are really doing is perpetuating the market. £950 could help 100's of horses in Ethiopia for example.
Just MHO - food for thought perhaps!

Nosey me, dying to know the neighbour, is it PD?? Anyway, I have rescued 2 mares from France... now I really don't regret what I have done and have never looked back, but I think there are a few peeps who have.. One of my mares was 2 when rescued, and without writing a book ... it has been hard hard hard work... you really need to have loads of experience because you dont know what your going to end up with ... one of my mares has a deep fear of a few basic things... eg hoses... men etc.. anyway sorry to put a downer on things, just trying to be realistic.. I no that some of the other mares where completey unhandled, wild and some aggressive... also as soon as mine arrived I aquired a few vets bills one for 400 ish and the other was 700ish...
I'm not sure I would relate any rescue to the word glamorous atal... its a great thing .. rescuing any animal and very worthwhile... just be careful and be sure... believe me these horses arnt eternally grateful you pulled them out of the sh*t... just be prepared for everything.. as for the money, I really cant donate another penny, well... I just cant afford it now.. but even if I could I would only donate if I had it in stone that the horse was to stay with the owner for the rest of its life, no money/profit was to be made from the horse, no breeding etc... anyway sorry for the neg stuff, but I think its all worth thinking about.. and I do agree also that theres loads of horses over here need help... in my case I just saw a picture of a sick mare and decided I would take the risk of nursing her back to health, fortunately for me it has paid off.... good luck... hope that made sense.... and hope it all works out, you've got a great heart!!

this person is 15, so IMO there is no way you have the experience to deal with one of these horses. if people are going to donate to her, you are going to end up with every teenager girl on here begging for money for a horse. also the mare is 650 euros so just over £500, so what is the other £450 as that can't be enough for transport.

whoah whoa. Megnum has already saved a french mare so please take care in what you are saying - she has done very well with her too considering she was unhandled and petrified.
that said - it is a sign of maturity to understand and accept that you simply cannot save them all, and to recognise that there are horses in this country desperate for new, loving homes. ex racers, IMO, are some of the most deserving of all.

Making a point about there being needy horses in this country, that is true. However you can also argue that there are needy horses in Tunisia, Greece, Africa, Spain etc, I could go on. We cannot save them all however if someone chooses to support a horse from france so be it. Each to their own, and good for them I say
