Hi all, How about this for a next topic then; "How do you know when a horse is in self-carriage?" Derek Easy - take away the scaffolding and see what it does.

Not a topic for me as I have no idea what you mean by self carriage. I was thinking more " A horse is incapable of experiencing emotions and only responds to natural needs and instincts"

Agreed. So, what exactly do we regard as scaffolding... and just what do we expect when it's removed... Derek

Excellent! I love the horse in your signature, by the way. Is that a french model? He does look a little hard to sit... Derek

... I love the horse in your signature, by the way. Is that a french model? He does look a little hard to sit... ... Now I have a theory about that, you see the French have slim bums, so they have to have comfy seats, so they sit differently from Germans, who, by and large, have bigger bums, so don't need such a comfy seat. Well if you compare a Citröen car seat to a Mercedes one, you see the difference, why not with horses?

Nope - doesn't compute. My rider is French - and he LIKES the hardest saddles in the place - including a Stubben close contact which is like ROCK! And he DOES have a very slim bum!
