Oh, goodness. I'm sorry to hear about this, Laurac. I hope your boys are not too badly hurt and that your shock and theirs settles soon.

Oh Laura poor you, i was gasping reading your post. Thank god you've got them home safe now. I hope you've managed to stop shaking. I've had to run after horses who have escaped before now and every corner they went out of sight brought horrific panic for us trying to catch them. Thankfully they were just fast trotting neatly on the left hand side of the road, merely exercising themselves but I'll never forget the fear, and that wasn't my horse or in the dark! Pour yourself another drink... And yes don't blame yourself, its horses, just give them gentle hugs and tell them never to do it again!!!

Know just how you feel.
Something similar happened to us 3 weeks ago. Someone was out exercising one of my older polo ponies - who doesn't think she's old - and got bucked off. We've owned this horse since 1998 and she's 21 and has never bucked before so it was totally out of character. The horse decided to head from home and got hit by a car when she crossed the road. When I got there it seemed pretty clear she'd broken her hind leg as she was holding it in the air. I went home and came back with the trailer and she was weight bearing on the leg by then so I called the vet, who was on his way, to see if he was ok for me to move her. He said yes, as he'd need to X-ray her. Got her home and 2 hours of X-rays later it turned out she'd crushed the splint bone on the outside of her leg and the force of the twist to the leg had fractured the inside splint bone too. She had a Robert Jones bandage on for 8 days and the vet is very pleased with her recovery so far. She's still on box rest but is remarkably sound considering and he's hopeful she'll make a full recovery.
Hoping your two are as lucky. Hideous experience. Really feel for you.

Holy poo Laura - I nearly pooped myself reading this how utterly terrifying. Let yourself blame you for tonight, its natural, tomorrow is a new day though so wipe the slate clean and start again PS Box rest might not be that good an idea if neither has any breaks - theyl both stiffen up massively after big impacts and hammering about on tarmac = / Thinking about you all tonight xxx
