Yay!!! Fantastic!! It's lovely to have enthusiasm and encouragement, thank you. Another good day, they are only tiny changes and if you didn't know how nervous she'd been they probably wouldn't even be noticed but she didn't move away when I put her headcollar on from the left , I haven't been able to do this for several weeks as she is always more cautious of anything on her left, not only was she quite happy BUT her nose was almost at waist height and when you're 5'2" THAT'S LOW! I was able to give her a lovely stroke all along her neck while she grazed, no flinching at all. She is such a sweetie when I took her hay net down she waited while I hung it up, as soon as I said good girl she tucked in and was quite relaxed with me standing with her. I think she might almost like me again.

Lady was in with our arab today who decided to go potty galloping all over the place and Lady thought she'd join in. When I tried to get near her she was having none of it blowing and snorting, sounding a bit like a train it went on for so long. She was in one field and I needed to get her out of that one through another and finally into the third. I couldn't get near her in the first field no matter what I tried but after a couple of minutes in the middle field I could go and give her a stroke and make a fuss of her but couldn't get a headcollar near her but after 5-10 minutes of pressure release I was able to get a rope over her neck and then her head collar on. Make or break! Could I lead her confidently down a very wet field with her quite excited? YES, I took a few long slow breathes and she walked beautifully, I could just see her from the corner of my eye, each time I stopped so did she, more fuss, I always ask her to stop at the gateway because it's slippery and she was a star. Later I went with her headcollar again, the little bugger practically begged me to put it on her, well she turned her nose towards it and lowered her head for me. ;D ;D ;D

Fab news on the leading!
I don't think the galloping around and then not wanting to be caught sounds fairly normal stuff for horses who want to be together. I'm not sure if you've got other reasons for having them in separate paddocks but it sounds like they'd be really happy together. It might take a while for the hyper stuff to settle but it should. The main thing is then to make it clear from the start that you can take one out and he/she will come back, so you don't end up with separation issues.

All three are out 24/7, I have 2 field stables and a field shelter, Silky is actually happier on her own than when she was kept in a herd, Dibbles is a bully who we know from previous experience thinks nothing of trapping a horse at the back of the shelter and trying to kick them through to next week, added to that Lady even this time of year needs her grazing restricted other wise she will just eat every avaible blade of grass, they do go in together when we're there and there has never been an issue but when Dibs decides to show off it rubs of on everyone lol.

Awww - nice work!! Lol!! I had a simlilar scenario the other day - Sandy's mate was out with her, and decided she wasn't going back in until she'd had a final gallop round the field - she came back to the gate and as I went to put her headcollar on she went, "no way, I'm not finished!" and went off again... as I walked over to Sandy she came at us full pelt as I stood there waving an arm and trying to avoid being sprayed with mud & water, and Sandy danced on the spot ready to get the hell out the way! ;D

I love it when they stop and look round as if to say who started that? then start grazing as if nothing has happened despite the fact the field now looks like it's been ploughed

... while you stand there saying "well, that's less grazing you've got for the rest of the winter now, isn't it?"

Yesterday was a breakthrough day, We decided OH would see to the horses and just for one day Lady wouldn't have her feet done, he hasn't been able to get near her for weeks, at one stage she would struggle if he was within 50', yesterday he walked down with Dibbles on a lead rope and she let him feed her and stroke her all over her face head and neck, definitely a happy christmas day. We went down together today and I stayed behind the truck and she let him stroke her again, even when I walked towards them she didn't mind at all. Thanks again to Liz and everyone who has been supportive, just need the back lady to give us the all clear in the new year.
