Bless you
I only hope that one day I'll be in a position to be able to help some horses like you have helped Beauty. Well I actually hope that one day it won't be necessary because there will be none of this cruelty but unfortunately whilst there is man there will be evil.
Please keep us updated on her progress, she looks like such a sweet heart

What Jol said.
She looks like a real lady, so glad she has found someone to treat her with love and dignity at last.

Oh bless you milo! It's wonderful that, even in an overwhelming sea of drowning horses, we are managing to save a few between us all. Thank you again to everyone for all the nice things you have said. It really means a lot to me

OK, so now I'm in tears looking at her face. So glad she's safe with you.
Please do also get her bloods checked for leptospirosis. It's something they can pick up more easily when they're run down and they can pass it on to other horses (and other companion animals) with devastating consequences. It's not normally tested for in blood tests so you would have to ask for it but I'd now always get it done on a rescue horse. But it can be treated with antibiotics if they have it.
Look forward to seeing her blossom. Give her a big kiss and hug from me. (((Beauty)))

Many thanks to ALL for all the lovely comments. She is 20 years old according to her passport. She is an Argentine polo pony and her passport was issued by a polo club. I called them to let them know what happened to her and to check she wasn't stolen. They have no record of her being stolen. I also checked the register - no brown thoroughbred mares reported. Even the bays didn't match her description. Will be following up her microchip next. One last thing... When the dealer handed over her rope to Becky when he unloaded Beauty, Becky later told me that Beauty noticeably lit up. Becky said it lit her up too, in a way she had never experienced before. Becky is only 16, although she looks older. It's been lovely to see what a positive effect Beauty has had on a young girl already. Becky's really gorgeous and has amazingly spot-on values (well to my way of thinking!) for a young girl , but I think Beauty is giving her a wonderful new light and really validating those values. A new rescuer is born... Well, Caroline, there was a VERY famous chestnut Argentinian polo pony called Rosina Copper and her story is not unlike Beauty's. That had such a happy ending when she went on to win quite a few shows. Her story became public and she appeared at the HOYS in the 1950s as one of the Personalities of the year! Rosina was an old lady when she was found by her saviour, a lady called Meg Gibson, and they lived in Dorset. When I was about 12 or so my Dad arranged with her owner for my sister and myself to visit the old mare. She was then around 45 years old - no teeth and loved liquorice Allsorts! If you look on Amazon you may still be able to get a copy of the book written about her. Its no great work of literature but it's a nice story!

What a beautiful mare. Health and happiness in your final years sweetheart.
Well done Caroline. Reading this has been the best thing that has happened here today. (We have had some very sad news )
I have a copy of the book Rosina Copper Liz, together with the news cutting all about her 40th birthday party which was held at Crumpets Farm.
Looking forward to seeing Beauty responding to love and kindness, and nicer pictures yet to come.
Thank you Caroline for rescuing her. What a wonderful person you are.

Rosina Copper is the first horse book that comes into my head.I remember the Black Beauty story but can't remember much about Copper except she lived to 52,yet that is the book I wish I could read again Never looked at the horses at work but aren't racehorses tattoed on the lip?

am off to the feed shop to get her some food, seaweed, garlic and vetwrap! Please, please leave out the garlic. It has strong antimicrobial properties and can upset the flora in the gut. Right now she'll be needing all those microbes in the gut to get the most out of the food you're giving her.
