Just got thinking....how many of us 'grown ups' ride ponies? I have a 13hh mare on loan and we have loads of fun, come into problems at shows now and again but strangely enough it's only when we beat people . She's really enthusiastic and tends to scare kids and doesn't put up with thewell riding so she's much more suited to adults.... Me and her winter '05 Christmas '05 I also got on my friends naughty 12hh Sec A when I went to visit her....Haven't got any stirrups just a leadrein pad but he was so fun.....very naughty though...got the message I was bigger and not going to allowed it but didn't stop him trying

I am currently doing lots on my 14hh Arab as my youngster is sidelined due to lameness. Kis was beginning to take things easier as she is nearly 20 and I am aware of her small size. However, she is thriving on the work and will be accompanying my friend's novice horse at endurance next year as this was her main job up untill a couple of years ago. She raced round the Cotswold Farm Park ride a couple of weeks ago and went hunting on Monday over Hergist Ridge with the Radnors. She is just so much fun. She took two of my children through pony club and is still there for them to ride when they come home. I think we often make the mistake of overhorsing ourselves.

Overhorsing? Tell me about it. I've been told on many occasions that my 15.1 QH is faaaaar too small for my 5' 9" son to ride Guess all cowboys must be five feet tall then

I constantly have comments about Moo being so small and me not being a kid...try explaining to non horsey folk that she's not a kids pony ;D. Mom and dad have finally got the hint that I'm not giving her up unless I put on too much weight (she's rising 22yo and not a chunky lady).

I own a 14.2/14.3hh, a 13.1hh (daughters pony, whom I won't ride as he's older and don't want to dip his back) and a 12.2hh whom I've ridden, he's much better for me to ride than a child !

I ride Section A's and so does my 13 year old daughter. I competed on one of my section A's. One of them was on 10.2hh and I hacked her out regularly. Adult pony riders are out there. I'd rather be on a pony than overhorsed with a 16hh (I'm only 5'3" and 7 and a half stone).

Me too - War Cry is a 14hh Spanish Mustang, and I've got a 2 year old SM who I'll also be riding. They're not really ponies though, they're "small horses".

I've got a 14.2hh Fjord. I'm 27 and 5 foot 8, my father rides her too, he's 64! Pumba is definitely not a childs pony as she is so strong and is not past cantering sideways down the road if the mood takes her. I compete regularly on her and have not had any comments.

Gydja my Icelandic mare is only 13hh and she carries me (5'5" and no lightweight) for hours with no problems. We get some funny looks sometimes and the odd comment mainly from people who have only seen me on the ground. Once you get on board she seems to grow the first thing anyone who sits on her is 'she doesn't ride like a pony'! Here I am on her: Beryl is only 14.1hh but she is built like a tank. One lady at my old yard rode her a few times while her horse was injured and Beryl actually convinced her that she didn't need a 16hh tb who she sold and bought a 14.2hh, Pony Power! Here is a pic because I just can't resist posting pics of my baby!
