Just thought I pop in with a quick update this morning.... Tila first.... I gave her a good groom yesterday and def felt the foalie kick and move around, I've been so peeved off about her being in foal because of her age, but yesterday I got a flutter of excitement, maybe because I no she'l not have to part with this one, I just hope she can cope with it.... she is so kind and gentle, she is lame though in both her back legs, so I'm gonna get the vet out to scan her and have a look at her legs.... other than that she is looking good and happy in herself...
Rose is doing well too, I'm not happy with their turnout atal, but I've no choice and the summer fields will be opening up soon, they go out the the sand school for an hour in the morning then on out to a no grass turnout area where I just give them haylage for the day... Rose was lovely yesterday and its been a while since she has been so nice, but she put her head into me and sort of asked me to scratch and groom her, so I did for ages, normally Rose will bite or be a bit cheeky..... we're getting there..... I have to say though she is sooooooooo good looking, her coat is amazing so shinny and she has changed colour quite a bit, shes much lighter and brighter now.... her face is beautiful, so I'm gonna take some pics of them naked and running freely in the sand... every morning without fail Rose stands up like a pole in the sand school and then walks for a few steps on her back legs.... she seems to love doing it... hope she doesnt wanna do that when I'm on her!!!!
xx pics to follow

rose and tila are so lucky to be with you tia. I am sure tila will be fine I really liked her when she was here, I think she will be a great mum she really looked after rose. at least she cankeep her foal this time. its quite scary /worrying that they are going to have foals....but as you say they are for life and so are the foals. looks like there will be loads of pics all over the place - soon !

Thanks for the update Tia.
Hopefully Tila will foal soon and take the weight off her legs a bit, it'll be interesting to see what sort of foal she has, if it's her last as a trotter broodmare it could be trotter, or alternatively if she was just running with the others anything up to a percheron cross!
Glad to hear Rose is enjoying being a youngster now.

Poor Tila, but like you say Tia it will be nice for her to keep this one,she will make a wonderful mum. Could it be arthritis with her back legs? especially if she has limited turnout and is carrying a foalie? SS3 told me that they cant/shouldnt? be scoped at this late stage in pregnancy. She also said not to let the vet do an internal as it can cause miscarriage and doesnt tell you much. Thanks for the update and Im glad to hear madam Rose gave you a brief reward for all your love and hard work!

Thanks for the update, bless them both. Are you still hoping to get moved into your own place sometime sooner rather than later then you can do what you like with them?
Maybelline had an internal from the vet a month ago now and she didn't miscarry, I was really scared but the vet said it was fine and they have never had a problem with them miscarrying.

It would be safer for the foal if the mare had a scan rather than an internal, if you really want to know. Boo was scanned in December because she looked in foal --------------but wasn't. Dizzy, I have known mares abort or foal prematurely after having a manual examination late in pregnancy--------- it really isn't worth the risk.

The point is, neither a scan or an internal will tell you WHEN she will foal, they would only confirm whether she IS in foal. With the Spring grass around the corner, what to feed should not be a problem as long as she is on a good vitamin and mineral supplment, so it would be safer to wait and see ,an watch for her changing shape, bagging up etc and of course the foal kicking. Watch her lower belly around the flank area after a cold drink. You can usually see the foal move ( with patience) in the last 3 months. Good luck.

I agree it isn't worth the risk SS3 but if the vet is there and saying it is ok then since I trust him I would go with what he said was best.

Thanks everyone....
Yes Sarah I do think its something like arthritis, she is equally sore in both back legs, it seems to ease after a cold hose each morning.... poor girl... I'll ask the vet to have a look when hes out.....
I wouldnt consider having an internal, it would only be a scan for me personally and that would only be for confirmation.... I would like to know so I can make sure the yard can supply me with a decent field etc for her, Rose can go into a field right next to her, I'll prob put another 3year in with Rose, one that she is fond of already.... I dont think the crappy turnout is helping her legs at the mo, but in saying that when shes put into the sand, she gallopss for a couple of mins before rolling loads....
I'm still looking for somewere to live, somewhere with a field or two for the girls, I need some privacy to work with Rose too, our yard is really busy and its hard to get the sand school to yourself there....
I'm gonna try and get the vet out for Tues morning so I'll have it all confirmed then and update on here straight away.....
I lol when I read your post about Rose giving something back sarah... omg she is a real character... I enjoyed it while it lasted, I feel I can handle her but she can be cheeky with other people, oh got a side kick from her yesterday!! although it wasnt a nasty kick but still a kick, hehe, thats what I told him anyway....
My latest problem with Rose is when she is turned out anywhere atal... problem is... if you go into the sand school or turnout area, she'll charge you... at the last min when shes just in front of me or whoever is there, she'l then turn and kick out really really hard and fast with her back legs..... its like an over playful thing with her.... normally I keep a lead rope in my hand and flick it along with body language to turn her away, but shes getting braver and trying to basically just run over the top!! I noticed the yo in the sand school poo picking yesterday, and I went over to watch Rose to see how she would be with that, she stopped still in the middle of the school.......watched the yo who had no idea that Rose had clocked her, then Rose charged (like a bull) straight over, I had to yell "watch your back" which made the yo quickly turn and shout, this scared her away, but she turned and went straight back for more.... shes leading perfectly now, theres no biting when leading or when I'm putting the headcollar on, we're past that faise, but I have to say she can be quite cheeky if you dare enter the field, sandschool or turnout with her loose in it.... you really cant take your eyes off her for a sec.... shes so quick.... I'm sure we'l get past that like all the other "wee faises" but any advice on this one is more than welcome.....
I love Rose with all my heart, but some days I could cry....... lol...... shes a great example of how "not romantic" it is to rescue a horse!! I have to say though apart from a few things, shes a great example of a now 3 year old......and I think really beautiful too... cant wait to give yous loads of pics....

Thanks for the clarification SS3,sorry I couldnt remember exactly what you had said! Tia,I think you are doing the right thing with Rose, she does sound like a little madame, but the main thing is that you are making good progress, and I would be doing the same as you with her latest trick. Its certainly not been plain sailing has it?

no sarah not atal...just to let you know I had the vet out this morning and looks like shes not in foal... I had her teeth rasped and sorted while he was there, he thinks shes just stiff with her age in her back legs.. cause after shes out of the stable for a while shes not to bad...I was worried that Rose was in foal but looks like shes just got a big belly now... the vet commented on how well they looked now...
I'm so so so so so so so happy that theres no foals..... because I have just found out that I'm in foal.....................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Do you mean the vet says neither in foal? That is a relief for you.
All the best with baby x x x x x
