The girls arrived today so thought I would post some pics up here.
The filly is lovely and so friendly, she has bashed her eye though so bathing it. She even let me pick up a front foot - I was very impressed!! She got into the field, ate for 5 mins and then trotted and cantered round stretching those tired legs. She is so sweet and comes straight up and she just adores being scratched - so much so she leans into the scratch and looks like she might topple over!! Can't wait to give her a bath and a groom in a few days when the trauma has worn off.
Her tail is matted and she has rub marks on her face from something. The driver said when they picked her up she was on another lorry and had been left there for a very long time. She looked ill and they thought she might not be fit enough to travel but they gave her water and hay and she perked up. She was obviously really dehydrated and has been drinking loads.
The donkey is more suspicious but spritely and her coat is quite good. She wouldn't let me near her to start but by the end of the day she actually walked up behind me to sniff me as I picked up some poo. This was a major breakthrough and am very impressed!!!
They're feet are terrible and they don't know what carrots or apples are for. Not sure how old they are but the filly, although stocky, has really small teeth and couldn't manage carrot she took so spat it out.
Need to weigh them and worm them, get the farrier and dentist, but am waiting til they trust me so they associate me with nice things first!
Here's the piccies...
