Rubisas, your friend was correct about the small stomach. Do you feed her a ration of cereals at all? It is possible that she does not support cereals very well. I have an Anglo Arab horse here who did not keep weight on at all even when fed lots of cereals and we found that her problem was that she could not use the starch (glucides) in the cereals. It is a problem that is not very well known in France, called EPSM. We feed her a diet that is rich in oils now and low in glucides and she has no more problems with losing weight. You can feed such a diet to any horse with no problems, so it might be worth trying this diet. If you are interested, let me know and I will tell you how we feed Lutine etc.

Hi everybody and thanks for the advice and translations!! Beautiful words, noveau merci.XX I dont feed any of the horses here on cereals they are all on SS feed, this is what I have been trying her with, beet, lucienuts, grass nuts, mixed with mint, but she wont eat any of it!She did have a few of the grass nuts so I will keep plying her with those for now I think. She is much brighter since the vet gave her an antispasmodic this morning,She and Tila are now away from the other 3 which they are very happy about, they actually both cantered off when I let them go in their new paddock! Rose looked like bambi on her long spindly legs! tia has told me there is a probiotic that comes in paste for so may try and get some of that, any opinions?!! they have both been wormed with telmin paste and I'm waiting for roses blood results to come back.Fingers crosses everybody for the sweet baby.Sx

I am crying again, poor love. How does a 2 year old get so run down? She looks like the 22 year old Tila and the sad eyes again. I hope she starts to pick up fast with all the love and care being lavishefd on her and so many thoughts and good wishes from us all on here. She was the one who captured my heart too before I was asked if I would have Maybelline. So far, I have been so lucky with her.

Rubisas
I think what your asking is, can we explain what Rose is being fed. She does not want to eat any hard feed just yet, Sarah has said today she is starting to eat grass. Hopefully she will eat hard food soon. Do you need advice on a food supplement for your horse? If so, there are plenty of people here who can help you.

When Starry was ill with tetanus, and the vet had given up on her, a local GP gave her weetabix mashed up finely with a mild laxative lactulose to ensure that her digestive system stayed working, that could be syringed down too. I am sure that you can make a paste out of bluechip and electrolyte fluid too. Just hope that her bloods come back ok

I would like to say well done to all those who have given these horses a new life (I feel humble in your presance).
Perhaps a picture of Rose would be a good one to put on a poster, to highlight this abusive and needless trade.
I wish all of the new owners luck with the horses / ponies. Of course I hope that poor Rose is eating soon and does not suffer any more pain from her colic.

Roses blood results show high white cell count suggesting infection so she is on a 7 day course of antibiotics.she is eating plenty of grass today and looks brighter with no signs of colic.we will retest her bloods at the end of the course and then start her on probiotics. She is such a sweet baby, you dont even have to put a headcollar on to groom her,and this even after all she has suffered at human hands.
