if I had of know I live in ireland but last winter some one I knew(was nursing her 17h back to health) sold a big 16h traditional gelding, was very typey, and full feather gorgeous big horse was broke riding jumping for around £1500. And also knew someone else who sold a big 16h traditional the summer before hand for around £500 was broke and riding well, but just need taught some ground manners as had been let of with everything.

Oh Honey!!!! That's not fair,,,,, The one that we have was dreadful when he came. when being led would bolt of then turn ears pinned back and run you!!! Two years on he's a gem but has taken lots of work to get him like this.
There really aren't many BIG ones at all, I would be prepared to bring one or even two over. anything from a weaning up to a 10 year old.
In fact we are over in Sept, We're bringing cattle over with a friend of my dads so will have transport back to.

I have to agree with Claire - I have 16hh HW cob (not coloured!) who has a bit of quality about him and who has a most wonderful temperament and gives a fabulously comfortable ride. He would carry a LOT of weight and has a good strong back and very good limbs. He can jump and has a surprising turn of foot when required. He is brilliant in all traffic and very, very easy to clip. He cost considerably more than £3k! That is him on the left coming to be caught!
I could have bought cheaper but I wanted a safe, reliable horse who is not a total plod. I have always bought cheap and sorted out horses with a few problems but I cannot do that any more so had to part with more money than I ever have done in the past. I used to have a ceiling of £2000 but invariably paid less, more often than not around £1500 but those were TB crosses, not cob types.
I would have said a fair price for this little mare, who is nice but has done nothing, would be between £1300 and £1800.

Liz, I agree that if you want something that has done a few things (shows, jumping etc), has an excellent temperament and good in all ways you will have to pay a lot more than 3k, but for a 2yo I don't think a budget of 2k, like Clair has got is unreasonable.

Hi, Cubic.
I quite agree that £2k is reasonable for a 2 yo to bring on and Claire should get a decent sort for that money. Your grey looks a nice sort, Cubic, from what I can see in the tiny, weeny pic!

i think the cob is worth less than £1800, simply because its green. if it had more ridden work done to it, then yes it would be wroth that proberly. i would offer the owner the price you said between £1250 and £1500. and it also depends on how good quality the tack is.
good luck!

(about page 58 - or possibly 52 - can't remember!)

Here it is (page 58 of last weeks H&H) and this is the bigger photo of my avatar: I've only had him a few months and I've fallen in love with him already - definately a keeper.
