I wonder how it is then, that so many people worldwide, find the money to do the PNH courses, and buy the very pricey merchandise? The IH courses are very competitively priced, and few people realise the astronomical overheads that any equestrian venture of any size produces, all of which have to be covered before anyone makes a profit! I know, only too well- it is a struggle, year in, year out to keep ahead of, or at least apace with the competition. There are more and more courses of different types out there now, and to try to keep the students wanting to come, in the face of so much choice, is at least, for me, a yearly effort to try to think up different things! I do feel that IH hasnt such a strong structure as PNH, and is actually why it attracts the more free thinking individual, who may already have been down the PNH route and is still (remarkably) sufficiently able to think for themselves, as to seek new horizons. I dont agree with everything Monty does, but Kelly is not so indoctrinated as to stick rigidly to what has gone before, and is definitely open minded as to other thinking. This produces a certain structure, yes, but one within which there are goalposts which are not set in stone, at least, the way I see it. Just my two 'pennorth! Heather

IHK - I have all your books already and they really have helped. But I would have loved to have been able to do one of your courses when my pony was young as I feel it would have boosted my confidence an awful lot. I didn't know back then you could go as a helper. However I still would have liked to have brought with my pony. Don't think the RA's are expensive though:)

Emily, i think £75 is very reasonable for an RA. Where else can you get 2 or more hours one to one plus all the advice you need over the phone or by e mail? I'm still waiting to meet these rich RA's, hhmmm i wonder where they are hiding? As for the courses, yes you have to pay for the expert tuition for the week but can take a tent for your accomodation and the town isnt far so a quick trip to Mc Donalds or Tesco will sort out your food. Also a week helping is a fantastic opportunity, Kelly makes sure you are always included in the lectures and of course you get to watch all the outside work too! Beautiful country side, top class tutors, a class full of like minded people, i reckon its a flipping bargain! Nothing but horse for a whole week??? Bliss. eileen x

I think one of its strong points, that it's not dogmatic or rigidly structured and the owner has to think for themselves, also means it can appear a bit loose, unstructured and confusing. I would agree that it could possibly be marketed better. I know they're Monty's demos but IH and RA's barely seem to get a mention, although they do of course usually have a presence.
Everything is down south too ;D
I'd disagree about the accessibility of the methods though, and RA's being expensive. Anyone who thinks so clearly hasn't hired a middling dressage instructor to give them a lesson lately. Strangely people are happy to fork out the same hourly rate for riding lessons but not help with groundwork.

The worst thing is that Sarah (control freak) Fox is allowed to make rules on her thread. I have had a *wonderful* happy time since I joined IH, so I can't complain, so I can't post on this thread......
