Thanks Jenny and everyone else who has said lovely things about Timber. He's a total showstopper, i.e. people stopping in the street and gawping as he powers along the pavement with me, who's fairly substantial, hanging grimly on to his lead When he's up to weight I'm sure he'd pull a cart.
Rups is by Barif, who is a grey Spanish arab stallion once owned by Gucci. His dam was Coppermead Kareena, grey also, and he was bred in Sussex. Lots of people don't believe he's a pure arab as he dose'nt have a dished face and is chunky, but they change their minds when they see him in full blown arab mode. Do you have a pic of Fahly that you can put up?
My friend Bettina, by the way, who has given us Timber, and is still awaiting the arrival of pony from Ireland (I'll tell you about that in a mo') sounds just like Mrs Awde. She's 37, has 6 kids and is a grandmother of two boys already, and looks about 18. I'd love to know how she does it. She's had a phone call today to say the pony won't be here until Thursday, needless to say she's absolutely hopping mad and is now considering not paying the transporters their full fee, or any fee at all come to that. Re the drunken horse transporter man, he's been known to pick up a horse and just drop it any old place in the UK, somebody used him and spent weeks looking for their horse, finally found it in a dealers yard up north somewhere. B has only just found this out, so it's understandable she's frantic.
I've just spent a lovely few hours this afternoon up at my yard with Timber and Bee, my labX, and my daughter Izzy, just lolling about in the sun. I'm reading a biography of Elizabeth Jane Howard (The Long View amongst other books) where she describes laying in a meadow like laying on a bed embroidered with tiny flowers, she was right, it's just like that.

Ah - I have just found out the hard way....if you write something in the message box, go back to a previous page to check something and then return....lo - your message will have disappeared! That`s not so good when there are four pages to scroll through and you don`t want to miss anyone.
Carol with THE FINGER - I hope that wine gives you a good night`s sleep. You must need one after another painful day :0( I can`t believe the tough nuts business. Surely nuts are as rude as the s word if people are THAT easily offended? I almost feel like starting a thread for testing rude words on , just to see what Big Brother is offended by!
Carol with Timber Wolf - I hope that pony arrives in the right place........ Timber must be loving his new country life with you and your animals. Elizabeth Jane Howard was a brilliant writer. I loved "The Beautiful Visit" and the Cazalet series of novels which included "The Long View" I think? I have just discovered Angela Carter and I want to read more. "The Magic Toyshop" was strange and rather sinister but the writing is remarkable.
Rosemary - I hope you enjoyed the final installment of your birthday and the DVD. Hope you can spend time with Duncan over the next two days.
Jennie - Pendine sounds a very special place. I know just where you mean at Worth Matravers. We love that walk too, down the winding lane to the quarries and the booming sea. We once had a picnic at Durlson Head, further east towards Swanage, when there was an invasion of migrating Painted Lady burretfies. That was a sight to behold. One day, when you can come away again, we should have our day, or maybe two, in Dorset. Thomas Hardy`s Dorchester and the villages and then down to the clifftops?
We have had a late supper after younger son and I walked the dogs around Stanpit Marsh in Christchurch Harbour this evening. A hot wind and the sound of church bells from the Priory Church. Gulls and waders feeding on mudflats and a deep blue sea at the harbour mouth with The Needles white on the horizon. This was a favourite walk when the boys were young and we still love to come back. On the way home we were overcome by the fumes of seaside Fish and Chips so we took some home for supper. OH was very pleased!

Angela Carter was a wonderful writer, I really recommend "Nights at the Circus", which goes from Victorian London to Siberia and involves shamanism....utterly brilliant. Another good one of hers is "In the Company of Wolves". Talking of wolves, Timber has terrible seperation anxiety if somebody leaves the house, even if everyone else is here. Bettina mentioned he was like that with her too, he likes his pack to be all together, not sure how to cope with that one. OH took him for long walkies yesterday evening and ended up coming home the long way round as Timber refused to cross a large bridge over the River Avon, he spotted the water, put in a massive refusal and that was that. It put an extra mile and a half on the walk, OH is going to be soooo fit.
Butterflies....just had to type it as well to see if it changes. I've worked out something else about this new site set up as well (although it's probably something everyone else knew) the advertising gubbins at the top of the page relates to the subject of the thread. For example there's a KFC thread that mentions carrier bags, so there's a load of carrier page links at the top of the page.....have a look, you'll see what I mean.

Carol - you are right! I just looked at my post to Eileen asking if she is still IHDG Appeal Treasurer and the ads are for The Financial Times!
Just off for a hot day working with Sarah`s current ponies. Will need a good walk to work off last nights chips.

I am basically getting ready for tomorrows show - why is this so time consuming?! I have duely considered this new message board and given it my best efforts. I have a conclusion. I hate it.
The solution is to write in word, keeping word open as a window, and then you can toggle back to the MB.
What a beautiful dog!
I am currently reading: 'The Hound in the Left Hand Corner' by Giles Waterfield, and laughing quite a lot. But I'm not a great reader of novels. Ex used to moniter my expenditure so carefully even second hand books were frowned on. (I had the horses, you see...)
My daughters have just had a hen night. They have always doubted Grace's claim to be a C cup - they dragged her (she is matron of honour not bride) off to a Bravissimo where she turned out to be a 28 F - This gives her a choice of two bras in the whole world. But apperently she looks pounds slimmer - though she did not look pounds fatter before.
After b'day I suspect I do. Sons and I rather horrified to discover how much meat three people can eat.
In my picture posting, it is the getting it to photobucket thing I am lacking. Anybody know how I do this?

Rosemary, I`m sure you will soon work off your birthday meals which sound fantastic. I am reserving judgement about this DG. I find the gizmos all a bit much so am ignoring them. One step at a time. I really dislike the censorship of words and the American adverts, but maybe that is a small thing to put up with now that all posters are accountable for what they are saying? I just want to try something. Blue tits. There, lets see if they censor the second word!
Carol, thank you for those Angela Carter titles. Our local small book shop has sadly just closed down ( seen off by Amazon and Waterstones 3 for 2 offers according to the newly retired owner). They used to stock a good selection of Virago authors but I shall have to go into Bournemouth or Salisbury to find a similar selection.
I had a good ride this morning at Sarah`s end of the Forest, on little grey Rowan who is becoming a real favourite of mine. A very gentle pony with dark soulful eyes who is perfectly happy to potter. We went around an inclosure, through a plantation of very young conifers and then back across the heath to the fields. We went with Patty and Bobbin , who are such a good partnership now.
My upstairs window is wide open because of the heat and I can hear foxes barking and tawny owls hooting nearby. It is a clear night for stars. I`m so pleased that the Discovery crew landed safely back on earth today. I wasn`t convinced that they would......

I think Ann's "in lurve" ! Wonder if hubby would grant you an early Christmas present - a 4 legged one of course! Rowan would be a perfect match for Ginger - you could ride Ginger one day and Rowan the next. I'm glad that Bobbin and Patty have hit it off so well. He's a such a gorgeous laddy.
I wasn't totally convinced about the Shuttle coming home safely either, so quite a relief to see them land without a hitch yesterday.
You had me looking for Angela Carter books yesterday. I only found one of short stories (in Ottakers) yesterday, so I shall turn to Amazon instead. As they are Virago press, this is why I've probably missed them totally, as I have always tended to think "feminist witterings" if I see Virago books, and ignore them.
I don't mind this new format for the DG too bad. It's like the craft one I am on, so I'm familiar with the "leaping around" bit, but must admit I don't tend to leap around so much as come straight here to the NH bit. I couldn't do photos in the first place, so nothing different there then!
Rosemary - your daughter must be so tiny across the back. Gabby has similar problems - 32" DD she claims to be but probably an E were she measured. She has to buy a size 16 bikini top and an 8 bottom . . . She takes after me as I was very slim and busty at her age. Wish I could do the "slim" bit again.
Carol - I think I shall treat myself to Angela Carter's "Nights at the Circus" - it sounds fabulous and just up my street, so to speak.
I think Fahly is like Timber - doesn't like his "harem" to spread out at all. I was in the garden weeding yesterday, when Tam took the dogs for a walk with Tom, (tall, good-looking, nice lad) - a friend from school. (Male, but not a boyfriend - "He's just a FRIEND mum - no BOY in front of it." OK - got the message.) Fahly went loopy, yelling stallion neighs to the four winds and hurtling to the top of the paddock (neigh) then back to me (neigh) and distressed that he didn't have both of us in one place. He does this too when we are clearing dock in the top field, or grooming the girls.
Our top field (the rested bit) is a proper wildflower meadow now the girls haven't chomped it to within an inch of its life, and there are lots of butterflies up there, so we are doing our bit for wildlife too. We even had some Blues (which are my all-time favourites). We have Common Centaury, various Vetches, wild Hops, Self-Heal, Clover, etc and it looks so pretty. The Dock doesn't look so good, but we are gradually working our way through it and burning what we have cut down.
Anyway, off to do breakfast now. Back later.

I'm having a very gloomy day.......
sigh
Finger hurts..... and i am feeling sorry for myself.
Mara bashed herself on the head. I went to feed her and load her in the trailer (AGAIN) to see if we could get over our trauma of the weekend.. Oh yes she will load OK and stand in the trailer, but then decides to tank off if I try and shut the partition. This morning she threw her head up and has skinned her face above her eye (good job it wasnt her eye). Then galloped round the arena shaking her head.. i hope she hasnt done anything serious. Will I ever get her loading happily?
I'm in deep dooodoo with OH as well. Someone in the next village is trying to rehome a dog. She's a delightful 8 year old mongrel collie cross with the sweetest disposition. Her owners have changed jobs so she is left tied up on a rope outside all day whilst they are away, and hardly walked at all. To be fair to them, they know that this isnt good for the dog (Ellie). Her owner asked me yesterday whether i would like to have her, and ina fit of feeling sorry for Ellie I said yes..... OH is NOT PLEASED. At least we will have a trial to see if Ellie and Skye get on.. and hopefully OH will decide she's sweet as well.
Please..... oh please..... in the next life, can I have an animal-besotted OH?. My current one just mumbles about the time and cost and isnt really tuned in to animals. As for walking with the dog(s) or helping me with the horses.. forget it......

Oh Carl, that is rough luck. I hope that Mara is not so sore now. It might be worth you having a chat with Sarah Weston (RA) who I have recently seen doing some really good work with loaders ( or non loaders!). Her website is WWW.logicalhorsemanship.co.uk The change in loading behaviour in an Arab recently staying at Sarah`s was quite remarkable. Give her a call. I`m sure she would be happy to listen. I hope your OH relents about the dog. It sounds as though she needs you! Jennie - please don`t tempt me about Rowan. I know he is a lovely lad but , like Carol, I have an OH who thinks enough is enough ( until the next time anyway!). Lots of blue butterfilies up in the heather today. You have a good selection of wildflowers in your meadow. I read somewhere yesterday that grass left to grow long and wild to provide winter pasture is called "foggage". Not sure I had come across that word before. A first today - I took Ginger for a ride on our own! Just up the hill, past the Boy Scouts field ( full of tents, flags and cheering scouts today) , across the heather and through a car park full of picnickers. One nasty moment with a loose dog that charged up behind us. A great black Hound of Hell job it was. A silly man let it out of his van in the lane so it could have a run - right up the back end of Ginger! G did leap a bit but we did a tight turn, just managed not to fall into a cattle grid, asked the man to please control his dog and then just kept going. Not good for the nerves that! Ginger`s (and my) adrenaline was up for a bit but we kept going and he soon settled down. I got off after the car park and led Ginger home alongside the road, so lots more experience of traffic coming towards him and up behind him, even though we were on a track and Ginger was much more interested in trying to grab mouthfuls of bracken :0) Off to catch up with some hoovering. Funny how I just forget about the inside of the house for days when the sun is shining outside.....

Show today - Jacob was a real bore. He had done so well practising - all hyped up for the first turn, going straight into a good trot, etc etc. We got in the ring, and he would hardly move. Went around not walking, not really trotting (a sort of shuffle) and not doing his show at all. We ended up (not surprisingly!) well down the line. However, Jonsey did very well and for a second. All in all it was a nive day. Still no saddle so I rode the off road bits bareback - and boy has my bareback riding gone down hill - I felt terribly insecure, thought after a bit my seat did improve somewhat. I really MUST do a lot of work on my seat. . Yes, my daughter is tiny! Bear in mind she is five foor and less than another inch! I'm going to try and post a nice picture from her wedding - involving Mace of course.
