Thanks. She already had a foal before i got her, and ive had her since she was four! She really is good. Im just not good with her height. I have to ask her to bring her head down so i can put the headcoller on her, and when i put her rug on (please dont shout, she feels the cold the same as the rest and i plan to have her for a long time), i almost throw it over her. I am only 5ft. Oh thinks its funny when im working with her. Got to climb up on something to groom her back and mane, but she doesnt seem to mind!
Where are you in Scotland?

You are right. They do feel the cold. She sounds a lovely girl.
Unless there's someone on the DG that comes from Shetland, I am probably the furthest in the far north, Orkney. Used to live in Renfrewshire at one time so know your area reasonably well.
Happy New Year to you Alison, when it gets here.

Happy New Year to you also!
You are a bit far away. Whats the weather like where you are?
Im sitting on this instead of cleaning my house for the bells, and feeling guilty. O well, suppose i better go do something.
What kind of horse(s) do you have?
All the best for 2006!!

Hi, I too am from Lothian/Borders, I don't own any horses, but i do have 2 that i ride. My sister has a black chunky beastie, don't know breed possibly Welsh D X Dales. Also have been sharing a wonderful gelding who is, a bit of Arab, bit of Salle Francais, and bit of clydesdale both are 15.2hh and 13 & 28 respectively!

Hi Julz, quite a few of us up here then arn't there? I don't know anything about Salle Francais, sounds an interesting sort of mix that one. It's Highlands I'm particularly interested in, but any of the native breeds. I've a Highland mare that's with my daughter. I'm hoping she will go to the stallion again this year. There will be another foal to look forward to then. Where do you get to ride Julz?

tl, both the horses are kept on the same yard, up on the side of the Pentland hills near the Ski Slope. the hacking is fantastic!! Salle Francais is the French Saddle horse breed, not sure how much of it he has in him. The only time he looks Araby is when he's being loose schooled and he holds his head and tail up, and flicks his hooves... He has a huge bum, suspect that's the clydesdale (good for jumping) don't know about the S.F bit!!! but he's the older one!! he's so honest, he really looks after me when we're out. (my balance is a bit dodgy!!) His owner had had him since he was 5.
If there's one breed i can't ride, it's Highlands.... they ALWAYS take off with me!!

Lovely riding up there Julz, it's a fabulous area and I rather suspected that's where you would be. Sister rides Icelandics along the other end when she comes up for the Highland Show. She enjoys that. Highlands can be a bit of a problem sometimes. They need to be be handled properly right from the word go. Disaster when they learn to use their weight against you, and even more so if they learn to tank off.Canny beasts though, if a little thrawn.

Have been to the Icelandics place, just the once, but enjoyed it. Don't know what it is with me and Highlands, I used to help out at an Arab stud yard, and one of the liveries was a Highland, she did fantastic dressage, medium level i think, and i got asked to take her out , while her owner was on holiday, i argued the case, and got told that she wouldn't do nice dressage if she was a "tanker"... so i took her out, and she took me home!! Just stay away from them now and admire them from a distance!!
Whereabouts are you, tl?

Not quite as far as you can go, that would be Shetland. I've lived in Renfrewshire, Ayrshire and Lanarksire, but am now based in Orkney. Shame you have had a bad experience with HP.s How did you get on with the tolt? Being quite close to Iceland it's now become a place I would like to visit., have a look at Icelandics in their natural habitat.

Hello from an Ayrshire lass! (Well, I was a lass once upon a time, more of an old bag now) I have a daft Arab and a funny little Shetland/Welsh/who knows what.
