Hi folks, It's Vic (Small sister of Cameo) here with Joshua the big Friesian. And what a joy he is, He is a great ride and fab in traffic and on his own! I love this new look on the DG, sometimes it wont let me creat a new thread though!

Hi Vic - I have 2 lovely Friesian ladies Danica and Dandea. They are both fantastic and I love them to bits, they are so gentle and kind and brill to ride.

Hi tc, It;s great to hear from another friesian owner. How old are they, are the registered, I'd love to see some pics. My boy has been really good this summer and I wish I'd got time to ridse him every day, he is a joy to learn (we're learning things every day!)

Hi Vics,
My girls are 12 and 4 (mother and daughter) they are both registered.
The 12yr old (Danica) had been used mainly for breeding and a bit of ridden work before we got her and the youngster hadn't had anything done with her at all. We only bought them both in May this year. The youngster (Dandea) has come on leaps and bounds - we now hack out about 4 times a week and she was shod for the first time last week. I have got some photo's of them but I need to download them from my camera as the ones I've got at the minute are from my phone and don't really do them justice. I really want to take Dandea to shows next year but none of the shows near us even have a foreign breeds class so it's a bit tricky.
How long have you had Josh? Is he gelding or stallion? i think I have seen a photo of him on one of the other threads - he is stunning!
Like you I wish I could ride every day - I do my best but it just isn't always possible. We've also found a registered Friesian stallion in Cumbria who we are hoping to put Danica in foal to next year - so then we'll have 3!
One thing I do want to do though next year is go to the Friesian stallion gradings in Holland - I think just to watch something like that would be amazing, we are hopefully booking our tickets next week.
Whereabouts in the country are you - perhaps we can start our own Friesian shows!!! ha ha!
Gosh I've gone on a bit haven't I! It's just so nice to be in touch with someone else who has a friesian.

Hi tc sorry its taken me so long in replying, Im in the midlands. Ive had Josh for nearly 5 yrs. I bought him when he was just 8 months old from Holland as a Premie 2. I took him to the Friesian inspection last year in yorkshire and he came out with best gelding, best 4 years old and best in show!!! they also gave him a Premie 1 and Ster status so I'm still on cloud 9 from 12 months ago!!(He's only a pet!) I'll try and put some more pics up for you pebbles but Ive not done it before!

Hi Vics - I was off work last week so have only just seen this. Wow you must be so proud of him! Are you going to the next gradings in the UK? I think they are next year over here aren't they? I really want to take Dandea but I am not sure what happens at these things, do they have to be ridden or just run out in hand? She is riding beautifully now (we are still working on canter though!) - I don't think I could keep up with running her out at trot though! They are both my babies and I have never come across horses like them, they are so friendly and always seem so pleased to see us. A complete joy and privelege to own.
Hi Pebblesgirl - I will have some good pics soon to post so watch this space!

Hi All, TC..... whereabouts in Lancs. are you? We have a Friesian gelding and we're in the Wigan area. We do dressage with him and the occasional open showing class. We have n't taken Erik to the gradings for a while now but Mum usually goes to watch. The horses are shown in hand at the gradings, you can usually arrange for a Dutch runner to run the horse if like me you have trouble keeping up! ( It depends on how many people have the runner as to how much it costs ). You could do the chasing which involves running behind with a lunge whip and a small tin with small stones or dried peas to rattle, this ensures the horse trots out well.

i'm so jealous, i would love a friesian, they are stunning, i was at a horse sales last year, someone rode this frieian stallion into the carpark, (it wasn't for sale, just being shown off for stud) and loads of people just turned and stared, can't wait to see pics of yours

Hi Ruth,
I'm not too far from you then - I'm in the Oldham area. I think if I do take Dandea to the gradings then I will be paying a runner - there is no way I could keep up with her at full out trot! What is your boy like? How long have you had him?
We are starting to break both of them to drive but after that I would like to do some dressage with the younger one, I was thinking about taking her to a few local shows next year just for the experience but will probably do in hand (canter isn't good enough yet for a ridden show!)
Oranges - my photo's are getting downloaded this weekend so watch this space.

Hi tc, Erik is 12 now, we imported him as a 3 year old. He is approx. 15.3hh and a big softee. We've been quite lucky, in that I think Erik has found canter a lot easier than some Friesians do. We haven't broken him to drive, the roads around here are so busy and he's not the best in traffic. We've just started at Medium level dressage and are enjoying the challenge! Good idea to take your youngster to shows it'll get her used to the atmosphere and should be fun! Good Luck, Ruth.
