Thought I'd add a greeting from Wilts as not many people seem to live there on here. I don't own a horse but do love them, I've also ridden a horse belonging to another member on this board. Loved it I prefer this new system BTW. So, a big hello from Wilts.

Hello from Wiltshire also! I think you might find a few wiltshire lurkers around. Tend to read the board a lot but don't often post. Have a horse, monster welsh cob, and hopfully soon getting another on loan. Mhairi

Hey barrd! *waves*
I wondered if you'd make it over here or not!
It's one of my lot that barrd has ridden, my big old heavyweight cob, Bess.

Hiya varkie, I wouldn't call Bess heavyweight, shes a big lass but lovely in every way, only thing I'd say is that's quite hard to get her to speed up, I always wanted to go just a bit faster, but hey, thats a male trait {hehe} I at least have joined a few days after the new move, was quite a surprise.

She definitely IS a heavyweight cob, I promise you! Both in terms of her weight, and her breed! She's only 15.1hh tall, but weighs 630kg! She's only slow with nervous or novice riders - she knows her job!

So how would you class me then... and be careful, nervous or a novice? I've brushed her down, led her from the field, cleaned the frogs, even looked her in the face and calmed her down when a bit 'frisky'. Whilst joking, would be interested in your answer. A clue, novice I can handle

You are definitely a novice, and not nervous - to be perfectly honest, you could do to be a little more nervous! ;D It's not a good idea to be too confidant around horses - sooner or later thats gonna land you on your backside in the mud!

Nervous I can actually do, but around your lot no real need. The little un's, bless 'em, they chew and do bunch up, I learnt my lesson there, won't make that mistake again. As for T, she gave me a damn fine headbutt, I have to admire that, it wasn't intentional, she probably didn't even feel it, I sure did, near put me on my backside. I'm no fool, fear is a good thing, but round your yard I have never felt the need to employ it. I have great respect, I watched "I disagree" and those around me, but never any outright fear. You know my feelings toward T, brightest non human being I have ever come across, again wasn't afraid, but had nought but great respect for her, she watched me and I *knew it*. Bess I reckon just never got me, I love her dearly but shes never done anything but walk backwards for me when I asked, I wanted to go faster, even pleaded, she just took her time. Bless her As you well know, I've been thrown before. It'll take a good show to get me off again Bring it on, I want to learn. ( In this country or beyond )

Hi, barrd!
I was born and raised in Wilts until the tender age of 16 when the family moved to Cornwall where I lived until I was 25. I have lived in Somerset for the past 32 years but will never forget my young life in Wilton where my first 3 years were spent in the grounds of Wilton House, where the Garden Centre is now located. The house which accomodates their offices was my grandparents home for many years! I learned to ride at Grovelly when old Capt Clark and his daughter Nicky ran the place. When I was about 14 I met a girl a few years older than me who ran a very small yard at Steeple Langford and went there to ride and to help until we moved. We had great fun as it was very sociable a well as hard work.

Hi Liz, I've only been living in Wilts for 5 and a half years in a sleepy wee town between Chippenham and Bath. But its a beautiful part of the world

Hi.. just realised there was a wiltshire thread.
I'm from wilts too (just!). east of swindon.. but only 1/2 mile from the oxfordshire border and not much further from the west berks border. I can easily ride in all three counties! I am just off the ridgeway -glorious ridign country.
I have a 16h trakehner mare (see pic under endurance people thread) who is the love of my life. Also two dogs, three cats. six chickens and occasioanally an OH! I also look after a retired dutch warmblood (silver, aged 29 ish) and a donkey called maud, who is nearly 50, and who spent many years as a racehorse companion.
