Oh that does sound better! The new vet has done what ours did for Rufus. If you have an IV line in then Sabina can rehydrate and the vet can give electrolytes in solution as she needs them ( assume blood test taken for this?).
Best of luck to you and OH. Would gladly do a shift if we were nearer to you. I remember how exhausted we were after Rufus was on a drip for 24 hours.

Nikki, only just copped this..OMG what an awfulness for you. The trouble is we are so conditioned to trust vets that when it goes badly wrong its a huge shock. The tubing sounds like the horror we went though with Cliffie in the end. I'm hoping everything is much better now... sending you masses of good vibes. emw x

Yeah, well, I can't keep the needle for her drip in - Sabina has jerked it out twice... it's into the vein and I can't replace it. I've called 'new Vet' twice for this reason today, it's so embaressing.... Pentaran, she's blocked in the gut, behind her stomach, which I should imagin is pretty damn empty. I tried the linseeds and bran mixture, but no go, she's never had them before and was more than suspicious, sniffed and left. However, leaving the drip aside until later tonight, (so another night on my feet outside) she's better on her near side, her off is still completely blocked...no action inside.... don't horses have giant suppositories or something? I just wish she would poo.....

Can you/the vet, not get some liquid paraffin down her, if not by tube, a syringe is better than nothing.

Specialsparkle3 I'll talk about 'liquid paraffin' when he comes back to replace the needle... I keep thinking about it but never remember to ask at the time, things have been very stressful. I'm just chilling at the moment as I've been up 15 hrs already, and probably will be up most of tonight as well.... OH has got 'bronchitus'... this is not at all a good start to the 'new year'... right, I'm off back outside.. Sabina is just standing, tied and looking uncomfortable, kicking at her stomach periodically, (about every 15 -20 mins) not as often as yesterday and earlier this morning, but definately not right,,, probably back later......

Hi there Nikki, just catching up with this one. When my auntie's old stallion had colic, the vet definitely tried to tube him with liquid parafin rather than tepid water. As it was, it wasn't impaction colic, it was a twisted gut - he was prone to bad colic from previous worm damage... so the liquid parafin wasn't helpful in his case... Thank Goodness for the new vet... Fingers crossed and sending much love to all of you. x

What a scary situation,You are damned if you do and damned if you dont. Our Vet would without doubt have given sedatives and pain relief.Often the sheer fact they have relaxed through sedation helps the movement through the intestines.. Good for you whacking him for abusive behaviour. Many would have been in shock and just allowed it to happen.Fingers crossed for your girl.
