Just wandered as at the moment I have been using hardly any. In September I ordered 50 bales & fully expected to have to order at least another 50 at least befor christmas for two ponies. But as yet I still have almmost half of the original delivery left.
Anyone else experincing similar?. PS the hay is high quality BTW so no reason not to eat

What is the grazing situation with your gang? If they have enough grass then hay isn't necessarily required until it runs out. Lucky you!!

My lot havent eaten as much this year at this point as they did last year. I use large bales not small and so far have gotten through about 20 bales between 15, though didnt have to start giving them any til the beginning of November. I usually expect to get through 4/5 a week in the worst weather and 2/3 in a fine week. Thank goodness ive found the bales much cheaper this year!

Since it turned nasty this week ours have been getting extra haylage as they are all in at night even our two babies who should live out are coming in. They are eating everything put in front of them at the moment as there is absolutely nothing good in the grass at all.

I've used about 12 bales, with only 3 acres of grazing, but they just don't seem to want it - it's good quality, cost £2 a bale.

Up to nearly a bale a day now as snow/hard frost means they can't reach the grass - 1 horse and 1 pony. My winter grass field which was rested until early Nov and really well covered then - think hayfield is looking well grazed - much more so than in other years at this time.

A bale a day for the past 4 weeks. But I only have an acre and a half and use it as turnout rather than grazing so they get hay all year round. In summer I use the big round bales but in winter I put haynets all round the yard and field plus they have free access to the stable.

i use the huge big square bales, they are 15.00 a bale and for my two it last 3 weeks, they are hardly eaten any in the field this year only this last week with snow have they eaten the hay in the field, but every time my boy leans over the elec fencing the livery yard owner moves them into a new field ;D they are just about to move again this week

My two don't seem particularly interested at the moment even in the cold weather, however I have given them the run of the paddock and their is still a good amount of green stuff left.
My hay is stacked in the shelter at the moment so they go and help themselves when they fancy some.
