I say trying because I am not a very good teacher,so we are both learning together it.
this is charm, my son's girlfriends horse, she lives with me and I am her foster mother,I take care of her,so thought we have some fun learning the
spanish walk together, I am against wips, but need it to reach her leg, I am more tickling the leg, I would never use it in the horrible way.
anyway this is the start of us learning the walk together.
let me know if you think I am going the right way? or not in learning it
they are carrotes in my bag, good girl and carrotes

So are you starting with jambette first? I haven't got as far as Spanish walk yet, am teaching jambette currently. I always try to think about next steps so I am standing to the side of the horse facing forwards and tickling with the whip on the back of the forearm, this will be my position when we are walking and I will also be able to touch this spot with the whip from the saddle so I wanted to be able to carry it all through. I think a really good jambette first can only help the horse to really learn to lift the shoulders So not sure if this is the right way to do it and I'm open to other suggestions too

Hi Antares, I didn't know what jambette was, I have just looked it up, no, I have just gone stright into starting the spainish walk,
I on the video had only done it for 10 mins, my first attemp, I think she is getting what I am asking for? although, she hasn't quiet understood the second leg but I am still rewarding her for any attemp even when its the wrong leg
I am off to look into this jambette some more on youtube

If you go on to nalanta web page they have a bit of a description on how to teach it. The theory of teaching it first is that otherwise you won't get the same lift with the front legs The progression I will be following is teaching jambette first then Spanish walk on one rein lifting only inside foreleg then the other rein lifting only inside leg then after a while going for two full steps and increasing from there. I think any faster might create confusion and a poor execution of the movement but this is only a theory as haven't actually got there yet lol

I can't find any step by step videos on the spanish walk on their site?
if charm gets a bit bargie with the food, carrotes I just step her back out of my space.
one leg she has got to a tea but the other one not so yet.

I don't have a video but can try and get one for you, we are only in the early stages and it's a bit hit and miss but happy to share if it will help. Nalanta seem to have changed their website, there used to be info on the basics of how they teach tricks but I can't find it now

The weather is horrendous here,so haven't done anymore yet, but watched the video back loads of time, must, stop saying bur bur bur upppppppppppp,it gets on my nerves hearing that,so I don't know what it does to charm, plus think it would help charm if I asked when she was on the right leading leg,I didn't make it easy for her when asking for the other leg,I have a lot to learn.

I feel a little dishearted today, the first dry weather today, out I went to pick up where I left off, but all I managed was her to pick up other leg and that was half heartly.
how do I progress from here?
I had a little go with Sunshine, just getting her to move just slightly like I did with charm, rewarding the slightest effort in moving her legs, she still trying to work out what I am asking for here

it helps being a bit loopy loo sometimes you need sound the loopy loo video's down below where has everyone gone?? anyway I have an idea, I was thinking of the IH arm and hand bit and then getting a pole on the floor and asking for the legs as she steps over pole? not raise the pole, just have it on the floor, and the asking of the leg would be more perfound with the extended arm in asking of the leg, what do you think? ?? good idea? bad idea? I hope I am making sense?, I mean she is doing what I am asking for lifting her legs up,but I need to make it easier for her to understand that I need her legs up more perfound and forwards and I am not doing a very good job trying to explain this to her. plus I have a problem in using the whip in my head,Id feel more comfortable using extended arm, then the whip later on as a que. anyone new to IH reading this, Hi The is the IH extended arm I am talking about loopy loo video down below

There is a lovely chap up here innCumbria called Omar Rabia who has written a book about what cobs can do. He also runs in hand workshops, where by the end of the day we are doing half pass with his wonderful horses, in hand! He does Spanish walk with his, using a tap with his stick to encourage them to lift their legs. He doesn't use food, but just love as a reward., I think this is too stop the horse getting not foodi-grabby, plus you don't want them waving front legs around in anticipation of food!
