Does anyone use these. I saw a British Horse Feeds rep today at the sale and on the stand they had these lozenges. They are around £11 a sack so compared to the micronised linseed from Charnwood which is £22 a bag it seems really good value. But is it? Does anyone know how it compares to the stuff from Charnwood?

The lozenges are made from what is left after the oil is removed. Molasses etc.are added. I personally wouldn't feed them.

I bought a bag on the way home of what is meant to be the same thing in an 'Argo' bag. It cost £11.99. The ingredients says 'sunflower, linseed, mollasses but no percentages of these. Oil 3.5% Protein 25% Fibre 16.5% Ash 6% Im guessing not much sunflower oil, must be the leftover from extracting oil from both sunflower and linseed? Taste quite nice I was hoping I could use them for the others but keep on buying the stuff frm Charnwood for the pony that has had white line disease? What do we all think?

I've used them for ages as treats, wouldn't feed them in any bulk thou due to the molasses content.

off the top of my head they were something like 7% sugar , 3% oil is nothing when you think it should have linseed and sunflower in it,

I believe the pelleting process involves heating so the omegas(one main reason for feeing raw and micronized) are lost or greatly reduced. In this case I think it's a case of you get what you pay for. Think yourself lucky atm the only micronized linseed I can get over here is 50 euros for a 15lbs. tub. That is for 6.8 Kgs!

So bootlegging linseed to Ireland would be a good sideline Seriously though, just trying to keep things as reasonable as possible. Maybe for the others just linseed oil is the answer as they are on Vit E in with their minerals?

The micronised linseed isn't bad value as you don't need to feed much.
All 3 of mine are on it, but when I had just Cinny, 1 sack (they were 25kg, not the current 20kg) would last 5-6 months and Cinny was in fairly hard work being at the time an open level endurance horse.

The recipe Ive got is to feed a 13.1hh pony about half a scoop a day (forgot the weight, think it was 200g) and I have four ponies so it does add up. Im nearly through my second bag and only got it for the start of October.

Is this of micronized? That's sounds a lot. I was directed to feed Sophie 16hh a mug to her when she had severe hoof problems. I now feed her one cup equivalent and less to my others.

Got an email today off Argo even though I sent the enquiry to BHF. Here it is
Thank you for you enquiry.
Prochips are made up as follows,
33%Sunflower
24% Palm Kernel
10% linseed
3%Glucose
3% Molasses
They are a concentrate so should be fed in very small amounts. Whole linseed can be bought, but does need cooking before it is to be fed to horses. Hope this answers your question.
Kind regards
Heather
