Anyone done it? Any tips? A local riding club does classes and I thought it would be fun to dress up and have a go, lol!

www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=84183It's a showing class where you dress up in either evening dress (dark coat and top hat) or a dress, like the pic on this thread. I normally hate showing, but how cool to ride in a dress?! I think Gazdag would look ace. The riding club I was thinking of also does Equitation classes and unaffil dressage up to Elementary, so I could do those too whilst I was there.

I watch the Concours 'Elegance at the RIHS every year. There ------is a side saddle class in period costume down to the finest detail for the period chosen, and taken VERY seriously. It is a beautiful class to watch and requires I would imagine, dressmaking skills to the enth degree.

Im not seeing a pic? Sounds fabulous though, I always used to dream of riding sidesaddle with a beautiful dress flowing down the side of the horse...... So impractical!

Side saddle would be lovely, but practically, I think Gazdag's back is too short. I had his 17" Vogue made slightly shorter than normal and it's *just* the right length, he wouldn't get away with any longer. I have quite long legs, so I'd imagine I'd need a long side saddle to sit properly! He could do side saddle with a rider with short legs though I guess, but not with me!
I'll have to cheat and do it astride, but it's only local level. I think people do Concours d'Elegance at county level astride and in dresses.

Ha ha, yes, anyone brave or silly enough to ride Gazdag side saddle bareback in a giant dress is more than welcome to come and have a go! Spectator tickets charged at £5 each, bets taken on how long it takes to fall off.... ;D ;D

I've never heard of it either, looks very romantic! What is it judged on? Not sure about the Lady Godiva idea, it's a bit chilly for that!

Yes, to see the top notch sidesaddle classes much be such a treat. Zuzan'a idea is good, no costume worries there, just need a short saddle for Gazdag. ;D Actually, I bet you will both look fab jennyb.
