well I am glad to see everyone is entering into the spirit of things and taking targets seriously I will NOT be held responsibile for any horse that decides sex is better than a good walk .....mind you after the way Bonney was throwing herself at the (to her VERY) sexy quarter horse that just moved into the next door field she would yesterday have choosen nookie over even a short walk . He IS a sweetie though , gently nibbling her neck and neighing sweet nothings. I have not seen her showing off to ANY male like that since we encountered a wonderful luso stally about five years ago We are almost ready to get this Ride thread pinned then refer everyone to the charity section where I will oganise area threads ............ eveyone can then chat to peeps in their area and drum up some more interest. Area oganisers can get lists names of interested dgers into one place and folk can get in touch with each other. I can help out in Cornwall in one shape or form, oh sarah I am sure bumper would love to chat to you , can I put you down as organising with her .. pm me you real name and email addy please off to bother my mistress lorraine again

Ok I have started putting up threads for all the areas in the charity section so that everyone can find and chat to others about the ride without trying to find threads in the general section. There will be soon a pinned one for general ride information and news ..................
off we go then ;D
thanks

I was looking into this (for another site I belonged to at the time) but we never put it into action, mainly because fo the lack of members willing to help organise the whole thing!
We worked out the routes from John o Groats down as far as Lands End covering most of the counties.................... suprising how many bridleways and tracks do link up to each other
Sadly I think I threw a lot of the stuff out as it wasn't ever likely to be used, but it can be done from one end of the country to the other end, just needs an awful lot of organising.
You also have to think of things like insurance, marshalls and whether you need police escorts of a lot of riders are on the roads and if they are willing to let a huge group go out together................. daft I know but think safety first at all times!
If you like I would be willing to help co-ordinate on a country wide level. We suggested each rider having an id card, and registering which route or part of a route they wanted to ride and when it was all being done.
Jen I'm in Lancs as well so if you like maybe we could get together and start organising the Lancs route, Pennine Bridleway is a a very adventourous one to ride and it would link us with Yorkshire as well, maybe a ceremonial handing over of a baton at the county border posts! (lol)
Please let me know if theres anything you would like me to do, my horse riding days are in the past but would still like to be involved.

If you like I would be willing to help co-ordinate on a country wide level. oh thanks very much crink for that lovely offer we have , since this is our first year of aganising such an event to start off on a smaller scale and work up to that. Like Lorraine says we want to encourage lots children , parents, non riders and those who want to do shorter distances to be part of it all as well as the one who do longer rides. WE also do need, as you said you realised, to establish just how many people actually in each county ready, willing and able to organise things like this. I think once we link up with all the people like yourself, TROT, Bridleways folk... . and we know exactly what contact we have in each county ...... we can maybe do a length of Britain . .....maybe next year. That is somehitn I would def like to be part of ! I have started to re eatablish links I had years ago with bridleways officer etc in Herefordshire to see what bridleways are actually passable ..... I NEVER believe just a map !!!!!! You also have to think of things like insurance, marshalls and whether you need police escorts of a lot of riders are on the roads and if they are willing to let a huge group go out together................. daft I know but think safety first at all times! that is DEF not daft ........... I am know to be a stickler for safety locally when riding out

I think Laura has summed up the aims of this event.
The idea initially, was for members of the DG / IH to ride out with a hope that they may be able to meet up together ? Or, for mums and little ones to lead out around a paddock, favourite ride etc...
A baton / relay type would probably have to involve club members who do this regularly, because if someones horse went lame and they could not take part, it would cause problems further up the line as it were.
We are basically saying " Whoever can get out and ride during that weekend, could they consider getting sponsorship for whatever it is they feel capable of doing " whether that be huge distances or a little hack down the lanes.
The charities will benefit from the sponsorship / hopefully everyone taking part will have a fab time / possibly meet up with other DGers and their horses / meet socially afterwards / and we get to see all the photos of what everyone did on the day !!
PS. Admin could have their spring clean of the DG while everyone is away for the weekend !!

well summed up lorraine until I get some more peeps from herefordhire who can then get me to change if they would like to try I would like to ride from one RDA cenrte ( cause I used to help out there and know the manager ) to another where there are loads and loads bridlepaths I have never explored. Halfway stop will be .... .....a PUB ;D ;D ;D so its just a decent pub ride really and anyone that wants join in will be welcome Day one would be 22 miles but folk can just do to the pub ..... or meet there then ride north. Maybe see if we can get loads peeps to do various distances on the sunday. We can also give sponsorship forms out to other peeps interested that want to do their own thing. Even among friends I have mentioned it to got several wanting to ride. this of course may change but its what I thought of so far ....
