Susan, is there a thread with some instructions for making those paddock slippers, please? I may need to make some for our new horse while he's transitioning and having just bought him a new pair of Bares, don't really want to shell out yet more money on equiwraps or something. Thanks! Wendy just for you a thread now added with what I hope will help you or anyone else to make some slippers.. If stuck I have said PM me..

gixer just remember she may not be ready for this work yet in hoof quality terms.. lots of repair to do before you can move forwards as per my signature.. let nature repair what man broke.. So take your time and let her tell you.. the best repair tool you have is called the 5th dimension that is TIME! I had to accept Flynn was damaged for near 3-4 years before we removed shoes and he had real broken by man hooves.. but now I look at those feet and feel so proud..( me thinks he is due a new pic of them to show off!) and you will also feel that way in the future.

Susan, if Rio tells me she isn't up to it we wont go in the ring, but having her there getting used to the hub bub will be good practice for when she is ready.
We've actually done one dressage comp already since having shoes off back in March (I had a horrible hangover and we got 49 and 46 lol)

That's why so many of us were rattling on about them! ;D I don't see any reason why you couldn't do dressage in them, and I would personally if there's any doubt as to her comfort. The only discipline I'm aware of where boots are banned is BE eventing.
I think it's fair to point out that there's more than one approach on this, and that the more work the better in boots (and pads if needed) so long as the horse is fine has worked well for plenty of people. Spending months or even years hand walking or only doing limited ridden exercise isn't going to do anyone any favours or encourage people to stick with it.

Yann TY for saying that I was about to feel bad for saying I bought a horse to RIDE, if I'd wanted something to pet and take for long walks I would have got a dog lol

sometimes getting better invlovles using the hoof not resting it, I really think you still need more information about what is happening and what you can do to help. Its a mindfield really, not even some proffessional know , have you read the listening post? That has some hoof problems in it.

Gixer ebay is a great place for finding second hand boots for far less than new, maybe worth a try

I can see improvements gixer. I think trimming conservatively is sensible when the horse is sound and working... I don't see any real point in rushing and possibly compromising soundness and work.
