Deosect. We sometimes have wild ones in, and whether lice are seen or not, we treat. Deosect always does the job. It's not cheap, and it's strong stuff, but it's good. We buy it from Scats. It's a liquid which you dilute down.

Deosect is amazing, even got the blighters out of my Icelandics full winter coat. Works really well in a spray bottle and rub it in well.

Louse Powder for horses and cattle - so far so good. Have had to apply head to foot before now as the little blighters traveled south.

Can anyone tell me how to spot if it's lice? And do you treat the itchy area or the whole horse? Rafferty is scratching his neck and has removed most of his coat in patches so I'm not sure what is causing it. Do lice just simply appear from nowhere?

Thanks guys. I used deosect and seems to have gone already. Still got another treatment to go at 10-14 days but his coat is so much better too already. All the scurf is going.
Kofihorse try having a good hunt around in the mane , you often see them on the skin there.
They often get them when there bit run down which jack certainly is but guess any horse can get them.
Good news is that vet commented he is looking better already

All- if your horse is heavily infested or you happen to have got into close contact - you know horse hugs and stuff - WASH YOUR OWN CLOTHES!! my OH was not impressed about me sitting on the couch in horse clothes and itching!!! Think the blighters may well have been on my fleece and shirt! So we have now frontline sprayed the sofa! - no carpets to worry about thank goodness.

Luckily I have this weird habit of washing my clothes!
Not to worry about your carpet, lice like fleas are host specific

Er - so do I!Maybe I should have said - "Get out of your clothes and wash them imediately " but was still in the days clothes just having that cuppa before getting in the shower - and they do bite humans - so I found out, I had several tiny bites on my lower arms to prove it- may be they were just tasting - a bit like cat fleas will. Mind you this is the first time in 20 tooo many years it has happened.
