"One thing though, you say she would throw her head around if you were catching her on landing, watch the vid again, she very often does. You really do need to give the reins on landing."
Sorry, but theres no way when showjumping you should ever give the reins on landing! How are you ever going to manage to turn?! And just because a horse shojumps with its head up, dosen't make it wrong! how many horses do you know that can jump round a track over 2"6 with their heads tucked in!

Natalia, I wasnt suggesting that the reins should be thrown at the horse on landing! but the hands should follow, the contact should remain the same as the horse stretches its neck forward, meaning that you allow the reins forward with the horse.Watch the Whittakers hands next time, they are very giving, even on extremely forward horses jumping huge fences. Obviously a horse throwing its head up,or even holding its head up is incorrect,it causes huge tensions in the back, which is the bit we wish to sit on!Thereby causing great discomfort, nobody is suggesting that it should have its head tucked in,but it should have a rounded back and a stretched neck.2'6" isnt even remotely high,I am no kind of jumper but even I have jumped 3'6",and I would expect the horse to show the kind of carriage that is depicted in both your own pics and those of kpick and inky, your own hands from the pics on your sig look very good to me,notice the difference. Anyway, paddywack has already acknowledged that there are schooling issues that she has inherited with her horse and she is trying to fix them. Lol at arabmania!

Why don't you try some grid work and distance work with her?? She obviously has the ability but is quite quick to her fences and it would be a way to encourage her to slow down and really use her body. If she has lost confidence to a big fence popping her down a line with a smaller fence into a bigger one is one way that you can help to build her back up again as well. Good luck with her.x

it looked great fun to me - dunno what all the snotty remarks are about. Loads of horses love a good blast over jumps - suspect it's a way of channeling their flight instinct which they do need to express sometimes. my horse is bored out of his little tree by poncey dressage tests (his opinion not mine) but stick him in front of a jump and the lightbulb well and truly goes on. Enjoy your girl padiwak - sounds realy special.

well I dont ALWAYS agree with sarah / sue and have opinions that sometimes differ from theirs ... however I find that when a threads ASKS for opinion then they are given honestly .... and I speak as a "curvy" rider that may incur comments not entirely positive if I chose to post pics of me riding and ASK for opinions. .....and even if I disagreed with opinions I did not like I would certainly not swear and throw my toys out the pram and think that if they said I was too curvy for my horse ( IN THEIR OPINION) that this inferred I maltreated my horse in any other way ( unless of course that they had evidence that I starved and beat my horse ) It is not "snotty" to give an opinion that a horse might respond better if cetain changes were made ....... or suggest that perhaps it is not the best course of action to take a horse that is acknowledged by the new owner to love a blast out hunting .... hunting ...... then also say they are trying to work on steadying said horses over sj fences. I am also confused here as to the purpose of the partnership .......... one one hand OP Paddywack does not have time to take the time she acknowledges would be ideal to get this pone working better...... on the other she says that she is having lessons and will do what is needed. This pone reminds me so much of my daughters horse ..... and it did take time, change of bit and giving up jumping till the head and the muscles sorted..... more hast less speed as they say. MY opinion re the video ......... nice pone shame she was fighting ....... but since I always think that about some of the horses at Olympia too you are in good company as to the comment re IH I doubt if any person who has the REAL ideals of"Intelligent horsemanship" would feel the need to respond to ANY post by swearing .. to me this demonstrates that such a person does not have that analytical and emotional qualities to deal appropriately with a horse.

Breeze looks a lovely sort who appears to love her jumping. I expect she'd really enjoy hunting and hunter trials/eventing. well done in finding such a super pony and not overfacing her with BIG fences. hope you have loads of fun together.

I thought PMT might have something to do with it!! I can see both sides, I can see what Sarah is saying, although you could have said it better love!! Sarah does know her stuff though and perhaps if it had been delivered a bit better the OP might have taken more of it in and gone away with something to add to her training plan. Calm down now everyone, Merry Christmas!!
