Meet Breeze!! aka Irish Breezy Weather 14.2hh irish Pony mare 8yrs!! This is the most wicked pony i have ever had she is super super fun!! She does everything is a machine have schooled around open team chase course! and she makes nothing of the fences! She is learning to do dressage and im hunting her on boxing day which should be fun apprently she has hunted lots in past over big stuff and open pc xc and im sure she will be amazing! She has sjed up to Jnr fox but had a fright and lost a bit of nerve but its coming back really fast hence the size of the fences and the slightly strange riding on my part !!! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RE6l4JBfYz8What do you all think ?? x

She doesnt look very happy about the gag in her mouth to me,nor the very tight hands that are fighting her on the other end of it,and catching her in the mouth on landing. Please remember that she is actually a living.breathing, feeling creature, not the machine that she appears to be being ridden as in that vid. And using a martingale as a quick fix when a pony is tossing its head is not the answer imo.

Ok well for one i would say u come accross incredibly rude and imo clearly missed out on a fair few social skills would you like a little bit more background on the pony, The pony came from a pc home where she did everything to a nervous girl to showjump the pony and rider both lost their nerve and as a result pony has been on part livery stuck in a box with very little turnout for last year! i have got pony and brought her back into work no the pony does not like the gag but has always been ridden in it. I have a very good instructor and have been recieveing ongoing advice n how to improve the ponies way of going and she is now starting to work nicely on the flat in a snaffle although as an 8yr old having never done anything on flat before it is a slow process. Her xc is very good her sjing needs work, having hunted given her own choice would gallop wildly into sjs and probably scare herself again. she is learning to sit up and wait for the jumps to come to her but having been ridden but gung ho children in past looses confidence with a passive rider, i have a super super sensitive TB and they way i ride this pony is only as currently this is the way the pony needs to be ridden, yes in an ideal world she would be in a snaffle and i wouldnt have to hold her mouth at all but at the moment it is how i have been taught to ride her. IMO i am not particually catchin her mouth on landing if i was she would flick her head back violently. she is a very keen pony who likes to get on with things and we are at the start of a long process to change her way of going. Im sorry that you find it necessary to be so rude, one suggestion, in the future if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all!!!

god i didnt mean machine like that at all, not in the mechanical sense in my area you may describe a pony as a machine lie a jumping machine or dressage machine etc! like really keeen loves their work etc no quirks loves thier job sort of thing ! please dont get wrong idea this pony is cuddled and fussed and loved and spoilt absolutly rottern!! x

Or even a rossete machine, take no notice of sarahfox, some people think they now it all and can preach a sernom, she has done it to me, water of a ducks back. Nice pony, very keen and seems to know its job. Good luck and have loads of fun.
Edited to say.... I would rather have a pony in a martingale than smaking me in the face with the back of its head as this pony would appear to be able to do, some ponys throw their heads in excitement, at least with a martingale they can see where they are going!!!! and what is coming.

I fail to see in what manner I was rude? you asked for opinions and I gave mine.I had hoped that perhaps you might look at the video in a new light and see what I am talking about, but you are clearly feeling too defensive at this point. One thing though, you say she would throw her head around if you were catching her on landing, watch the vid again, she very often does. You really do need to give the reins on landing. We all learn from horses throughout our whole lives, what is important is listening and striving to improve. I am very pleased to hear that you are starting work in a snaffle with your instructor, its clear that the pony is strong and very forward, however her topline is very underdeveloped from constantly fighting her rider, this alone will require much sensitive work to repair, and certainly wont be helped by charging over jumping courses in a martingale and gag. btw,I did actually consider saying nothing atall as I was sure that you wouldnt appreciate any constructive criticism, but I felt that I had to for the sake of the pony that you ae referring to as a machine.

Hate to say this but to me a 'very keen pony who likes to get on with things' usually equals a very worried pony who wants to get it over with. This is obviously not your fault if you have just got the ride on her but still, it is not nice to watch a worried pony scuttling around a course and fighting the bit. Good on you for having a go, dont take it too much to heart, at least you intend to change things for her.

phnomstud, when have I ever been rude to you? And precisely what arguments have I caused on here? I wonder why you feel the need to be so offensive towards me? Why would I wish to "crawl away"?

the pony is not tossin its head against my hand on landing she tosses her head when i check her a few strides later so she doesnt disappear off to find the hounds! This pony has had less than perfect schooling in the past and it is going to be a long process! The ponies ears are forward she is keen to take you to the fence no1 who has met this pony would contest this the pony loves her job and isnot happy doing nothing obviously she and i have a lot to learn im not trying to say we dont but i do strongly object to being told that you had to say something for the POOR ponies sake! implying she is some neglected beated pikey pony! this pony lives in the lap of luxury she has her every need seen too! She has underveloped topline of course as she hasnt been riddden properly for a year and it starting a totally new method of schooling and with time im sure this will come. It is narrowminded people like you who make people think IH minded people are a load of namby pamby pony petters! which is wrong! No bits no martigales ever!! the whole process is a learning curve for both horse and rider. The is a place in this world for bits and martigales, it doesnt mean its right but for safetly of both horse and rider it is sometimes necc in the short term in order to progress to more natuaral training methods and rectify previous issues. As i said originally i have had this pony for just over a month and it is very early days In future try and be a little more tactful in your approach to others and possibly try and help and educate rather than abuse and insult. and as you dont seem to do polite maybe DONT BE SO F**k***G RUDE may get accross work better! x

So good to see the Christmas spirit is alive and well! I'm not in the position to comment about your riding/jumping style as i only jump 2ft3" for fun at home and have a lovely laidback NF that never pulls. However, without getting sworn at or having my head bitten off, could I just ask why you are taking a pony hunting when you are trying to re-train her to steady up and listen more, rather than rushing at fences. Shouldn't she being going out for steady calm hacks before galloping with the hounds? Just seems like an excitable days hunting will undo your work to date? (TIN HAT!!!!)

Wow, there's the odd, really nasty person on here, isn't there? Nobody would ever guess that it's Christmas!
I have only posted on here a few times, but I can quite understand why someone would feel the need to defend themselves against you, Sarah.
Paddywak - you are doing a great job and I am quite certain that Breeze will soon settle with you. You are not catching her in the mouth on landing - look at the slow-motion bit at the end - her ears are pricked all the time. She is obviously already learning to enjoy her jumping again. You are going to have a great time with her. Good luck to both of you, and Happy Christmas!!!
