Charlie is on the mend, now meet Sabria
« Thread Started on Jan 23, 2008, 5:49pm »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sabria is an extremely well bred Arab mare, foaled in 1979, whose owner has sadly just passed away. She was determined to sort out Sabria's future beforehand, so I agreed to fetch her and she was signed over on Monday.
She is a sweet little old lady but struggling to eat haylage. The rest of her food she eats hamster style, with lots of it stuffed into her cheeks, and I suspect she has very few molars left, so we ensure she has plenty of bucket feed as well as the small amount of grass I can find her. I'm waiting for Robin Harding EDT to come and properly check out her teeth, but her spirit is still there - she has just come in season and is telling the boys in no uncertain terms to KEEP OFF!!!!
Here she is today, underweight as you can see from her lack of front, but not emaciated.
and
As old as she is, she isn't giving up on life and I would love to see her have another few years at Mill Green.

So that's what Sabria looks like! She certainly seems to occupy her bit of the world with conviction, doesn't she? A bit of a grand old lady
When I talked to Lorraine (Sabria's late owner), she said that the mare had been at least as important to her as her children I'm sure she must have felt so much relief knowing that Sabria was going to be looked after.

She looks like a lovely lady. What a wonderful relief to her late owner to know that she will be loved and looked after for the rest of her life

Look out for regular updates - as with Charlie I will take pics once a month to monitor how she is doing. I would love to get her back to looking like a quality arab mare again, with a front and some real condition. Doctor Green will help.

Well Robin Harding has been this morning - poor little Sabria hasn't had the easiest of mornings, spending almost an hour with the gag in. She has at least two loose molars, and one was loose and infected so had to come out. That and a good tidy up of sharp raggedy edges should hopefully make her a lot more comfortable, and we will be able to tell in the next week or so whether she can manage enough haylage.
At least we are at the right end of winter, and she does love her grass!!
Thanks to Robin for a first class professional job on what is an old and decrepit set of gnashers!!!

Oh bless her. She will feel so much more comfortable now Jill. Let's hope she can now manage to eat well to take in all that she needs.

She was actually chewing her feed properly tonight, first time I have seen her do that, so fingers crossed she has turned the corner and will soon be eating haylage with the best of them.
