well, this maggot got slimmer as a matter of fact. Much to the relief of the old boy
and the old horse...
hasn't ended up hook line and sinker like most folk it seems...

drunk? me? nope, never! (weeeelll, Sherry Trifle doesn't count does it?)
Find your inner self and - you can long line her... if you remember how to do it?
Find what motivates her to move her feet, take her to clinics where it's off home territory?
Send her to Oz.

Liz, if you have time check out my diary thread (Sherbie's diary) on PC for today's entry and a link to something I learnt from this thread about considering the environment re the car and light. Sorry if I'm confusing everyone with the name's, just trying to reflect our progress in a fun way, but it's Sherbertdip!!

or, had lunge line attached to horse, got rider to get on then immediately put horse to work on large circle - let her run on? Yep! Sent her STRAIGHT out onto the lunge on a big circle - fast! She actually RAN - well it was a trot - but a very fast one. Rider just gripped the neck strap and sat still (reins were tied up out of the way!) She did about 20 circuits at 'wall of death' pace - and then decided that the 'predator' on her back wasn't doing anything - so slowed down. At that point he used his legs and sent her on again - but at a steadier pace. We repeated this daily for a couple of days and each time she set off at a steadier pace, and came back much more quickly. Never gave any more trouble. The problem with a horse who is genuinely frightened is that it HAS to learn that the frightening 'thing' is not so bad. While we held her, she couldn't run away - so she exploded. Once she could run, she felt more in control. Of course, it takes a rider with the skill and the nerve to do it - and someone on the ground that can hang on - if she'd got loose with lunge line trailing it could have been pretty hairy!
