Brilliant Jill. Good for you. Its about time something was done. People who give their hard earned cash should know what type of charity they are giving money too.

Dont even get me going on the RSPCA I watched full grown men and a lady ,sit on a foal at a horse sale. The foal was on his back, with gut sat on him while the others kicked the foal. this was there attempt to get a headcollar on the poor thing, His legs caught over the bars,It was horrific. I started arguing with the guy, as the woman stubbed her cigerette out on the foal. Where was the RSPCA ..sitting in cafe drinking tea, so when i informed them what i had seen, they , carried on drinking tea, then went to investigate, by which time they had gone!!! Then this summer, i bought my daughter a shetland pony which turned out to have sweetitch. I bought 3 fly rugs, which she managed to shread, except the last one, she was covered from head to toe in fly spray, and moved away from the stream, until i could find alternative grazing for her. We left notes on gate stating that we were aware that the pony had rubbed her mane away, and half her tail, but she was under treatment via vets, and i also put my, and vets phone numbers in case needed. WE received a call from the RSPCA, to say he was at the feild, and calling about the pony. i asked him had he seen pony, he stated no,as it was raining, and pony wouldnt come over! So i asked him to wait there, whilst i came around to field. He asked me what i intended to do, i advised him, i would show all treatment, and was he aware that the rug on the pony was a fly rug??I also asked him had he called vet, as number was on the post. He said he had called as someone had reported the state of the pony.So i said"you havent even seen the pony, so how can you do a report??" He said he was just doing his job, and would call back in a week to check the pony! I said this time make sure he does check the pony, and have all his facts before calling. I know i was annoyed, and yes at least they had bothered to call, but mine was genuine..yet all these neglected horses go unchecked. so me and the rspca..really dont get on!!!!

They do need to know, if nothing else so that they can put their house in order, and I can't relay all the moans from on here. Far better she sees it for herself, and that we had an effective welfare system.

Oh dear, are they really that bad? I have had a couple of dealings that were ok,also adopted lots of dogs/cats from them over the years. I do wonder if it isnt down to which inspector you get or which sanctuary? Mind you if this many people have had problems then it would certainly seem widespread enough to need addressing. Has anybody got any good reports about them?! surely they cant all be that bad?! How sad.

She stubbed her cigarrette out on the foal? ? I don't believe in hitting woman, but I would have ended up most probably knocking them both out... Almost did that to a guy at Beeston Auction Mart a few Years ago, when I overheard him telling someone to hit a Pony with a metal bar GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I contacted the RSPCA regarding some ponies which had been very badly branded. No-one rang me back. I also contacted the ILPH and had a very grown up conversation with their local field officer - we drew up a plan of action in case the same thing happened again.

And, even worse.. guess who's the only place you can complain officially to about the RSPCA being useless... the RSPCA's own complaints department

This wa at Beeston Auction.I had my then 4yr old daughter with me, she was hyterical, shouting why are they hitting that pony. I was more amazed at how many people stood watching and done nothing about it!!
Only my gob could be heard, and believe me, i was not the politest of people there that day.
My daughter woke up for nights after, saying, help, help thye are hurting the pony.
I would never take her again, and was more annoyed that i was waiting for a thin IDX foal to go through, that i missed cause i was too busy tracking the RSPCA down
I added a report on the EMW site at the time.
ANd yes Melaine..the person you need to contact is their complaints dept, and when you try to complain, its like water off a ducks back!!!!

The Equine Market Watch were the ones who made the RSPCA and HAPPA come and look at he Pony, they were even considering snatching it and taking it away, but they were so low on funds that they couldn't manage to do it.
But I have serious respect for them.

sorry to disappoint you all but i have had the same shocking thing happen but with the ILPH i called them out to look at a horse who had very bad rainscald and was a thin as a hat rack with sores on his back, the owners were sometimes not seen for days but because he was on a livery yard the owner thought that was ok! ILPH man said as the horse lived out it had access to food and because there was a river at the bottom of the field he had water so there was nothing that could be done!!!!!

Guess it makes us appriciate just how hard some of these charitys work , on limited funds.
But if they can do it,then why on earth is it so hard to get the RSPCA to act so quickly??
Its as though they only call out to cases that dont need any work, eg the kind where nothing is wrong. Yet we have a lot of gypsy horses near us, that spend so much time out on the roads, grazing on common land, no access to shelter or water.. not even a natural stream. I have rounded them up more than once, and called police when they are running up the road. But when i mentioned this to the RSPCA, he said that they are aware of these horses but their hands are tied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
