RSPCA and HAPPA are a total waste of space.
I have and a few friends of mine have been reporting a neglected Pony for over 2 Years.
We have been trying to get these 2 organisations to do something about an under fed pony for well over 2 Years, about 2 Months ago, after creating so much hassle for both organisations they both arrived at the same time to look at this Pony. (If I posted a picture of it here it would distress some viewers)... and what has happened? Has the Pony been removed from its cruel owner? NO! as far as we can ascertain, no action has been taken against the owner, the Pony now looks slightly better, but is still very very thin and boney, lives amongst scrap wood with nails sticking out, on a quarter acre mud field with no shelter.
It sometimes isn't fed for 3 days, and dog walkers who pass by are trying to feed it best they can. But obviously not enough.
Over the Christmas period, most days it has had straw in it's single hay net.....which has no feed value at all.
And the RSPCA and HAPPA think this is acceptable !!!!!!!!!!
HAPPA are only 4 miles away from the Pony, but have taken over 2 Years to come and look at it.
They are a total waste of space, both organisations only seem interested in publicity, and not the interests of neglected animals.

I'm not a RSPCA fan at all anyway...they do have time to bully a caring owner of WORKING dogs but won't help a genuine case. It's worth trying the ILPH or somewhere like Redwings though

I'd echo UKSJ, contact the ILPH and give them all the details, except possibly that you have notified the RSPCA and HAPPA as they might not come out.

Sadly I agree re the RSPCA - I have reported many a cruelty case to them and they have never done a thing. On one occasion the animal I reported died through neglect, so what the hell was the point of the RSPC there?!
I would highly recommend the ILPH - I have reported to them and they were brilliant.

RSPCA - Chocolate tea pot IMO.
They prosecute people who just need education and a bit of help. The animal welfare bill gives them more and more powers, which they seemingly only use on those who truly do have the welfare of the animal at heart rather than those who knowingly and callously allow animals to suffer.
Oh, and did you know, that at last count they had about £120MILLION in the bank??

This same guy, the Year before last...had yet another Pony die from neglect, it laid there, covered with a pile of old wood for 2 weeks before he set fire to the wood and burnt the rancid smelling animal.
Locally people call his place Belson, because animals go there and never leave alive....everything, chickens, goats, sheep and Ponys Not that funny really !!!

That is shocking. I really wish something would be done re the RSPCA.
They really had that amount of money??? It doesn't surprise me actually as when I was young and naive, I had an interview with them to become an officer. I remember the salary was very good. If I remember correctly it was about £18k after training and I am going back ten years or so. That is without the extras you get too.

i have been trying to report a horse for a very long time now to the RSPCA and absolutly nothing has happened. the horse is still rake thin and standing in a mud bath. i have tried to report many animals to the RSPCA and not ONCE have they done anything about it. there excuse is 'aslong as they have access to food and water we cannot do anything about it.' their idea of water is a flooded field and their idea of grass must be a blad of grass on the other side of the fence. will there ever be an organisation that will DO somthiing? how long do these poor horses have to wait?

The RSPCA would rather spend their money on solicitors, the docking ban, anti hunt advertising and fancy cars for their executive employees. I was always led to believe that HAPPA were more use, but maybe not? Why not post a picture? Who does it belong to? Name and shame them.

RSPCA are a serious waste of space. There were three horses near us being neglected, loosing weight quickly, no food in weeks. Random people from the village were doing more to look after them than the owners (all had the sense to do it in ways that didn't give the RSPCA an excuse to do nothing). Despite calls from probably about half the village and another charity (they tried to do something themselves but owner told them to 'go away' and they don't have the resources of the RSPCA) they eventually showed up after the horses had disappeared in the middle of the night and hidden somewhere else to be neglected Owner actually suspected of having friends in the RSPCA since she vanished the day before they finally got their ars in gear (after weeks of complaints) and often showed up with a pathetic amount of hay within a day of being reported by someone.

When I found a dead horse lying in among another 7 starving horses the RSPCA were useless, however the animal welfare officers at the local council were like rats up a drainpipe! They were out within the hour, a notice served and evidence gathered to get the owner to court. The vet was with those horses within an hour of my call.
Successful prosecution too!
They tend to live in the Environmental Health department of your council!

I am expecting the local RSPCA Equine Officer for a visit in January - when I spoke to her on the phone she sounded genuinely surprised that all their "customers" weren't happy. I plan to point her to this forum!
