i should have posted a bit more of a recant pic, he is much more demure lol nowadays, this is him in his slimmer mode about 2 years ago,and in the summer this year, he is a fatso so you think he could carry a side saddle well then, what affect does it have on dodgy hips?

Wow - what lovely horses you have!
Which GB squad are you on? I mean, what discipline?
Wish I could learn side-saddle - you look so elegant!

So many questions - I'm going to reply all in one go. I'm so glad you all like my youngsters (I like them too!!) so you think he could carry a side saddle well then, what affect does it have on dodgy hips? Yes, I think he could carry a side saddle well, although it's harder to find saddles to fit wider horses (again because most were made for TBs), but they are out there. An anti-slip pad can be invaluable too! Dodgy hips - yours or his? if its yours it might be a good idea to have a lesson or two side saddle before you try it on your own horse, it's good if you cant stretch your hips too wide, but does require quite a bit of strength through the right leg. Which GB squad are you on? I mean, what discipline? It's for student riding (undergraduates). Its dressage and showjumping on loaned horses. There is a draw to see what horse we ride for each discipline and have 5mins to aquaint ourselves with the horse before the test or SJ round. It's great fun and really good for your riding! Oh to ride a horse like Percy to hounds .....which pack is he with? ? He's with the Wilton. He's without doubt the best horse I've ever hunted, he'll jump anything and get you out of a sticky situation. The master who hunts him now wonders how I ever managed him (being 5ft3 and him being very strong), but we had an 'understanding'!

The side saddle association is www.sidesaddleassociation.co.uk/ they have links to local reps who'll let you know places that teach. I'm afraid I only know teachers in the south. You should give it a go, it's great fun. Here are some more photos At Windsor: At the New Forest Show And at home!

I don't think I would feel safe side saddle. I know people do everything on them! but I would feel lop sided. I would try anything once though.
